M2 is a huge space on the fourth floor of a shopping mall permanently packed with Shanghai's young, pretty things. The industrial-feeling club is a big improvement on the former space. The sound system is first-class and it's one of the spots that super-star DJs play when they roll through town. Regular nights, however, expect to hear music on the commercial end of the clubbing scene and most of the space is given over to bottles and tables.

Just came in from M2 on a Thursday night and give this venue a 4 star rating. This is the ideal club if you are looking to meet a group of friend/coworkers since you can get a table. Unfortuantely with all the tables the dance floor is too small. It gets frustrating when people keep bumping into you without saying excuse me, especially the waiters. A good show was put on with dancing and a rapper which was very enjoyable. Music selection was good and up to date. This is an upscale club atmosphere so dress to impress.
Fairly standard club, decent sized dance floor but dominated by people not dancing and hooking up. Girls are aggressive towards any newcomers on the stages and don’t seem to realise that they can’t dance. Music is the usual mainstream fare just not a fan of the crowd. Would only go here on weekdays when there's more breathing space.
I really love Muse 2 ONLY on Friday and Sunday night, because these two nights they play great techno progressive. Friday is sort of intense and Sunday is the best time as there are not many people and the good music is on! The drinks are kind of expensive and so-so. I like venues where people dress up those big brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani and Bottega Veneta. No wonder it's called Muse! lol
M2 is one of the places in town where the good time is had by the bottle. Don't be a chump and show up without a table on a weekend night then complain about being pushed around at the bar. It's either go big or go home. The music is always loud and good hip hop and the dance performances are really superb. It's nuts but like a cleaned up version of 88. The big shots get the tables and the VIPS go upstairs to the private KTV rooms. I love Shanghai because M2 lets you separate the winners from the English teachers. Boom!
I was only there briefly but I loved the environment. I finally got to see what all the M2 hype was all about. The place definitely stands out from all the other clubs when you first walk in. Good young crowd. Definitely plan to go more often.
For my first clubbing experience in Shanghai and I thought it was pretty fun! The Club is a great size with a pretty good dance floor, but some predictable music. The staff were certainly not friendly at all, and the drink specials were nothing special.
Dodgy club with tons of people trying to hook up tons of other people. Great for a night to do rubbish and foolish things and not expect people you know to catch you.
Also great if you love jostling with the crowd to walk a few metres and drink trashy drinks. Theres always an occasion for everything!
Usually i keep to my group of friends to drink the cheap 10RMB housepours, and giving up after being shoved around for the next hour or so. Blasting music and people watching!
This is one of my favorite clubs in shanghai. The venue is contemporary and fresh, and a place for foreigners. The drinks are fantastic in taste, presentation, and budget. The dancefloor is a generous space, packed on weekends, with a stage. Great environment, the only thing that lacks a little is the music, compared to say no.88 or g plus.
If being stuffed between people's sweaty armpits while you're dancing is your thing and tripping over tables and chairs, go to m2. and what the hell is this having to check your stuff in only if you have an ID? who brings an ID out in China? This club is underaged and obnoxious. Music is unreliable.. It's good for a few hours then turns into shitty minimalist techno. The staff and bouncers are rude. Drinks are okay, overpriced. The shows are good with hot girls and two white rappers.. but that's about it.
Went here dec 30, 2009 First time, never went there afterwards cause my holiday ended. If it had not, i would certainly have returned. I don't get people complaining about the lack of alcohol in drinks. I bought 50 tickets for 500 RMB together with a friend of mine, had like 20 beers and 5 mix drinks. and i did almost feel the same as i would feel after drinking 20 beers in a Dutch club, only difference is that i felt more heavy cause i spend less money. And about no girls? Of what i remember, a girl started talking to me and after a while said she would come home with me for 1000 RMB, i started laughing, and after that some other girl asked me if i knew the other girl was a hooker. I said yes, and she asked me if was gonna pay her. I said of course not, and she proposed to go home with me. And so history was written.

Hi can any one tell me if its possible to find a PROPER trance club in Shanghai? Or is there no such thing? most places i've been seem to play cheesy commercial music.. :(
I've been there last friday. John Digweed was playing (this is why actually I was there) and as usual, its spin was fantastic BUT the next DJ, if I can call it like this, a girl that I don't know the name and I don't want to know delivered the worst mix I've ever seen... 2 blanks of 2 minutes each, mess up at every single transition and so on. So why M2 pays a fortune to get Digweed but ruin everything in the same time by letting a real beginner to perform??? So disappointing

Love hate on this one. The place is nice, the music is good, the crowd is pretty diverse, but it's so bloody packed.
Pulls in the big trance names like Van Buuren.
lots of pushing and shoving as the bar is along the path of the entrance/exit. horrible design and makes it very frustrating to get drinks or leave. the crowd is euro with some rich old local men with their mistresses at the table. not abc friendly hunting grounds as the euros have no interest and neither do the local girls (they know you arent going to get them that apartment and car).
Do yourself a favour, stay away.. unless you want to the staff to rob you blind. Went there on Sat night for AMB, the place is a disaster zone with staff who do not care. There are much better venues in Shanghai. Poor management, poor quality. TERRIBLE

Went there last time and they beat up and roughed up a guy who got in the way in near the bar and the dance table. wtf. this place is a hell hole.
NEVER GO TO M2!
If you like a club that is overcrowded with no space to dance this is your kinda club. This place gets so crowded that you cant even stand in a corner for a minute without getting pushed. Only good thing is getting 10 drinks for 100 yuans but even that is hard because they keep changing the bar that gives drinks for tickets and sometimes even them lose the track of which bar gives drinks. Only thing you can do there is to get a table which is ridiculously over priced and maybe if you get one thats far from the dance floor or upstairs you can have some room for yourself. So if you like to meet good people and dance freely as you want this is not the place for you...
Love seeing big DJ's like Infected Mushroom and Armin van Buuren visiting to perform at M2, but it's always so packed and the dance floor is so small. Way too many tables around the dance floor, extremely annoying.
oh yep, agree with dekcah, my inbox's always full of their advertising messages!!! It's annoying! But the club itself is really good, i like the 100rmb/10 drinks deal, the music really makes you move... but, though the dancefloor here's a lil' bigger than in Muse, it's still tooo crowded so that, again, u have nowhere to dance... :) the only area i guess that's not crowded is around the bathrooms
Dear M2 PLEASE GET A LIFE!
Ok I've been to M2 quite a few times. I enjoy myself most of the time. The other times being it's always OVER crowded in there.
But today I get a text message at 2:37AM! About a stupid Ed Hardy party. Then another text at 3:07 pm, another at 3:46pm and then a 4th at 4:01pm. All 4 with different numbers.
What the hell kind of promotion are you doing? Who the hell sms people at 2:37AM on a weds night?? Buy a freaking clue M2!
TIP TO PEOPLE WHO DO DECIDE TO GO TO THIS CRAPPY PLACE! DO NOT LEAVE YOUR NUMBER WITH COAT CHECK!

Went there for the Deadmou5 concert on Saturday, and I would consider myself a M2 patron for about a year, I like the 100 RMB 10 drinks deal, but it is really too crowded - especially on Saturday. The staff was rude and pushy, not friendly at all, and on top of that, we were harrassed and threatened by a doorman who refused to let our sick friend sit on the floor by the elevators ( which alot of people were doing). This is very sad, since I doubt I will be going back there anytime soon after that treatment from the staff.
the club is pretty sweet but it gets a big fat zero stars from me because when I go to a free flow night I go for one reason, to get samashed with my friends.
Two of us paid 150rmb each and though my girlfriend managed to get drunk I spent four hours downing "vodka" and still couldnt get hazy. The shots were so weak towards the end of the night I could have downed 100 before I hit the floor, they tasted alot like, hmmmmm i dunno, water? I understand that getting blotto isnt healthy but I was only barely tipsy. If I was into dj's maybe I'd go back, but from now on its clubs like Dela Coast all the way. I expect to be ripped off in Shanghai but not by bar managers.

Great mix of crowd, beautiful people from around the globe. However, for a venue such M2 was little disappoint at the DJ's spinning skill and the go go dancers. To elevate an venue like M2 to global club there should be a resident DJ that can transform the house/trance scene in China.
Decent club although the dance floor is smaller than one would expect from such a huge place. They need to get rid of a couple couches near DJ stand and add some cool light/mist machines to really make this place a dance club. The bar is also terrible to get through, although this is common among all bars, but here security guards will actually come and add to the traffic when the M2 dancers come to dance on the tables.

Loud funky music, flashy bar tricks and models is what the crowd has come to expect of Muse, and his is what Muse's younger sister, the aptly titled M2, has tried to emulate. Situated in the space where Wynn Winn used to be, not much has changed. Apart from an added splash of color, the layout remains much the same. A small dance floor littered with large couches make it awkward for those wanting to bust a move but perfect for those who like "in-depth" conversations. Western models dressed as angels weaved through the crowds trying to add a touch of heaven, but we didn't feel graced by their presence. Drinks are well-crafted but expensive; standard drinks cost upwards of ¥50 and cocktails start at ¥70. Muse 2 feels like a stale version of a tried old tune, though a little time and the Carina Lau brand may see it succeed where the spot's previous tenant failed. –Krisha Bartlem
