City Weekend says

The latest live house to hit the scene is the subterranean yet fashionable DCLUB. The idea behind this cavernous lounge is to offer optimum performance conditions for musicians while providing a refined, relaxed atmosphere for guests. For aspiring guitar heroes, this is the only venue in town where you can receive a professional recording and live footage on a DVD on the very same day you perform. Think its Yangpu location is a hike? Present a taxi receipt over ¥40 for a free drink.

Contributor Description

Housed within an atomic bomb shelter, Shanghai's newest state-of-the-art music venue, DCLUB, was built to withstand a non-stop barrage of fervent live performances. The thick, vault-like doors that protect this sanctuary of rock usher guests into a world that is separated from Shanghai's blaring horns and constant stress. Instead this refined yet impressive bar promotes an atmosphere where guests and musicians alike feel free to relax, have fun, and share. DCLUB's large, hollow interior is defined by one color, black. The long pitch-dark walls are punctuated with numerous portraits of music legends ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Angus Young. Guests will immediately recognize the colossal, rectangular bar that is located smack dab in the middle of DCLUB, which can easily seat up to 100 people. Despite the massive bar, the centerpiece of this venue is a stage that hosts professional lighting, a video projector, and impeccable sound equipment. Every Thursday through Saturday night, DCLUB also hosts events that hard to find anywhere else in Shanghai. The best live bands and DJs from shanghai go to perform there every week! While DLUB's location in YangPu District might seem like a long trek for those living in the French Concession, its close proximity to PuDong, the Bund, and People's Square makes it ideal nightlife alternative for those who live on the eastern side of the city. Since DCLUB's purpose is to be a place of sharing, owner Pheel has also instituted a "Fapiao Promotion", where anyone who comes on Saturday or Sunday evening with a taxi receipt over RMB40 will receive any cocktail or beer for free. Despite the distance, DCLUB's friendly atmosphere coupled with the intense focus on quality performances means that his venue may just help give Shanghai's burgeoning music scene that extra spark it needs.
