Seems like there's a lot of old-timers around here. Time Passage is really one of those places. It was my "last stop" of the night before I hit the bed. It eventually became a tradition with my possie. We'll get smashed, go there to sober up with more drinks, and say hi to the boss, Charlie the cat, play dice, and fool around with the instruments of whomever that's playing that night. What makes this "last stop" top spot for me is the fact that everyone seems to know at least half of the people in there. It's your second home away from home. Luckily at that time I lived within walking distance of the place. I would walk back home afterwards, which I later dubbed "酒醒路," or awkwardly translated "Sober-up Road." Hmmm.....this article calls for a revisit to one of my all-time favorites.

I have been going to Time Passage for 2+ years now and it is consistantly warm, welcoming and comfortable. The music always fits the mood - love the live music (especially early Friday nights!). There's a great mix of laowai and locals. The drinks are good - the coffee is particularly excellent and if you are looking for eats, the basics are done well (the french fries are amont the best in Shanghai). No doubt, it's a great place to pass some time!

I lived in New York City's infamous Hell's Kitchen for many years but I have yet to find anything remotely similar in seediness or shadiness here in Shanghai. For now when I'm feeling homesick, I drop by either The Hut or Time Passage. These joints might be missing the toothless postal workers passed out on the bar, but they do have friendly staff, cheap drinks, good tunes and some interesting clientele in their own right.
However, a man cannot live on ramen alone and I am no exception. When my wallet's feeling fat and I want to see how the other half lives, I put on my Sunday best and head out to the proverbial uptown. I was recently invited to the newly opened Kee Club. Decadent, yet the atmosphere was warm and friendly. What was I drinking? A perfect Manhattan.

"Painting is passionate and goes very well with good music, even better with a good drink. When not in my studio teaching, I love mingling and meeting people from all over the world. My favorite dive bar is Time Passage. They have good live acts, the atmosphere is always warm and prices are reasonable. There is no better place to listen to good country tunes while exchanging stories from all over the world."

"...my belly feels warm when visiting Time Passage, and it isn't just booze. This cozy pub displays photos of regulars, friendly staff and Charlie (the cat). The house band plays classic rock while the crowd drinks, laughs and rolls dice during chilly nights." - Issue 2. Where You Drink, Wendy

Always have a great ti here

Great music. Also good chess. Good company. Try out Luo Guan Zhong best chess player in bar and some says shanghai. Unfortnately is married. No time f0or me

This place fast became my favorite and for good reason. The music is every Tues, Thurs, Fri, and Sat. The Chinese band sings all classic rock tunes. The atmosphere is warm, the staff is amazing and friendly ask- for Baolou the bartender! The Happy hour is happy, and the mon.- weds. special is a pitcher of tiger for 45. Regular mugs are 15. They serve snacks and burgers if your hungry.

Performances take place almost everyday...

Stumbled in for a last stop and a decent glass of their house red. Great tunes and a decent crowd. Solid little local spot.
