This two-story British pub complete with faux fireplace is a haven for darts enthusiasts. In addition to four cork dartboards, the draft Guinness, happy hour and hearty pub grub entice even non-darts players to stop in for a session.

Suprised at the last review. Went to oscar's last night after work close by. Service was great. Food was typical pub food but unique in serving. arrived at 5:40 and the crowd built steadily. about 95% lao wei. only stayed a few hours and left to go home. previous review appears unfounded with our recent experience. Also, no tux encrusted manager....
Oscars, well.... Patron Oscar, these days sometimes walk around wearing a tuxedo, without a shirt. Damn interesting, a true boss atttitude.....Staff smokes behind the bar, gets back to their more standard Sh shit attitudes and seems to like to turn this place into a laowai free venue. Well, co owner from Europe, whats his name, seems to have lost the battle.....
Revisited this old timer joint and surprisingly service is decent compared to what was reviewed previously. Love the unpretentious ambience and looks like one of those pubs that everyone knows your name. Will definitely be back more often. The band was good too!
I fully subscribe to the view of eric_sh. We used to go to Oscars every Wednesday for playing cards on the second floor. Over the years the service staff learned that we are great customers, consuming a lot and we got good service. However, the staff changed and a particularly nasty person named Jason took over the second floor service. Apart from being completely, utterly incompetent, that staff is also obnoxious. He seems to be of the opinion, that he is a blessing for Oscars, Planet Earth and the whole universe and that we all owe him business.
We looked at the disastrous service for 2 Wednesdays and then decided not to take this abuse, close this chapter of many years and we took our business elsewhere, to Papas Bierstube in Hongqiao.
Had fun meeting a bunch of friendly Brits in this place, but somebody really has to do something about those tacos. I learned the Chinese word for diarrhea after dealing with those tacos and I'll never forget it. Techno music at 6pm, barely audible, could be improved too!
I am not a regular in this place but visited at least once/twice a month to watch some sports and drink a gin tonic. The old staff was not that friendly but at least decent.
The way the new bar staff thinks it should handle it's customers is messy. Rude interuptions during conversations. A bad attitude in answer to normal questions. I always behave well, but this bartender, called JASON, should be kicked out, although I do not have any confidence the other chewing gum eating, 'give me the looks' guys behind the bar can do any better....
A disgrace for what was an ok place. F%^&*( them.
Oscars has been my local pub in Shanghai for a while now. A large regular crowd and very friendly staff were the winning formula. Recently I visited Oscars to see that the management had sacked ALL the staff and replaced them with non English speaking staff who were all not very experienced working in a bar. As a result many regulars have left and this one time great local bar is going downhill fast. I think the management have just hit the self destruct button.
Be very careful ordering. They will attempt to double bill your credit card or pour a drink and later tell you that it was a double and that you now owe twice or three times what you ordered. Not sure if it is the wait staff, management or both. On busy nights this seems to be a clever revenue trick. Word to the wise. One block away is a new sports bar called Camels- open spacious - nine large screens and they don't try tricks. Alternative anyway.
If you want a friendly local pub in the French Concession then this is the place. Always a nice atmosphere and they show all major sporting events. I have eaten here twice and the food is OK and drinks are quite expensive but for a great place to meet friends, and make new friends, Oscars is number one.
All I gotta say is their salmon steak is a dish I make time for.
Haaaa, you should try the Nachos. Oscars served them to me with WHIPPED CREAM. Upon complaining that is not sour cream, they added lemon to the whipped cream and re-served.
Oscars is a corner pub that does not aspire to culinary heights, and that is how to enjoy that place. Stick to beer, Fish & Chips or BLT sandwich and receive instant gratification.
Food is absolutely horrible and prices are even worse. I ordered a 48 RMB lunch set where the so-called "Side Salad" was not more than 5 leaves with thousand island dressing. After complaining to the manager she claimed that's complimentary b/c of the lunch set, tacos by itself is 40 kuai. So does that mean the 5 leaves equals 10 kuai? Absolutely horrendous service and reply. Tacos were inundated with hot chili peppers you would find in a Chinese restaurant. I will never go back and never recommend anyone to go there. horrible.
Food is really terrible, service sometimes patchy, but in terms of value for money for drinks Oscar's scores high and it manages to draw a crowd and it is comfortable. A pub.

The atmosphere is like any English pub, so you don't have to be a musician to have fun because you're bound to run into like minded people. When you get there, make sure you raise your glass to the great house band playing a mixture of American folk and bluegrass. And, if you want to take the stage and play, make sure you see Paul, the leader of the house band. It's a great time–ganbei!"
