@tominsh - I'm sure if you dress as sloppy as you write then M1NT might seem pretentious because they obviously won't let you in. If you really think your game is working on girls at M1NT because you're convincing them that you are some rich mogul based on your stories and never emptying "Cuba Libre" then my friend we need to talk. Based on your choice of drink at Lawsons I can tell you are an English teacher so don't get mad when you see that there are people who enjoy the environment around them, shark tanks, Champagne bottles and beautiful women and don't fret too much about spending 80 RMB on a cocktail. I'd imagine if you showed up here then you haven't outsmarted the clientele but played right into their hands...

Yeah. It doesn't require much. Its not like this is rocket surgery or anything.

I think it may well be necessary to to make Tominish our king, somebody get down to Qipu Lu and put in an order for a crown.

It's a lot of fun. Possibly one of the best places in China where you can hone the art and science of pulling girls by telling lies. Sorry for being sexist here, ladies. Make sure you are dressed appropriately, and be creative! You're an overseas entrepreneur, a real estate tycoon, somebody's son. Bring a wingman along with you, or more than one. Pockets full of red Maos are mandatory. Marks are abundant, so have fun - alcohol and a low average IQ does the rest for you. We truly are in the workers' socialist paradise aren't we? And remember: sharing is caring. For all the people bi****ng about overpriced drinks - arm yourself with a couple of Red Label mignon bottles (you can get them from your friendly Lawson's or Kedi), order a Cuba Libre (classic) and top it up as you please when in the bathroom. It's always a fantastic pleasure to outsmart pretentious places (and clienteles) such as this.

Nice upscale club, nice place, good service..the music isn't great tho, too commercial for me...but we are in Shanghai after all.. I prefer it on wed/thursday.

@rene really? name two. Jack seems very impressed by this one here and he strikes me as a fairly experienced club goer. I've been around the block, now 72 countries to be exact. I've never seen sharks in clubs anywhere except at Shark Bar in LA and they were big, not like the tiny ones at Mint. Where have you seen them for a long long time.

@phillipvasels: Are you kidding haha? ripped of from Orange County ? Shark tanks in night clubs have been all over the world for a long long long time....

@jackburton In Orange County, just south of Los Angeles, is a cool club called Shark Club. Its been around for more than 15 years and is very well known. It gets its name from the much bigger shark tank that sits in its club. This is the venue that Mint ripped offed for its tank idea.

Haters got to hate but seriously, M1NT has a taco truck outside now. Taco truck in Shanghai and shark tank in the club. Someone pinch me...

Mint is a concept venue with a very tight business plan and marketing strategy. It is highly privileged and exclusionary because that fits precisely with the consumer insight of their base. Those here that have written reviews about the door policy and price structure are missing the point entirely. I would say that Mint doesn't care if those folks ever come back. They separated you from some of your money and that will pay out a fat dividend to their shareholders. There is always someone behind you that wants in or back in. As P.T. Barnum once said, "there's a sucker born every minute." Mint is just that. Its consumers have a distinctive need to feel important and different from the rest of humanity. Mint is the ultimate enabler of this psychosis and social malais. Drink up!

Wanky crowd, terrible door policy, overpriced drinks!

Restaurant by day and club by night, this swanky venue is the place to see and be seen. If you move to house/techno music and have spare cash to expend, you’ll revel in this hotspot teeming with expats. Expect pricey drinks — a Bund standard — but the sophisticated décor, stunning terrace view, and live shark tanks give you definite bang for your buck.

The first time we went to M1NT was a Friday night and we stayed from 12-half 1. The music was poor techno/house, no one was dancing, a lot of posing and people-watching. So we decided to give it another try on Saturday at 2. The door policy is horrendous. They insist on a ‘smart’ dress code but I think this only applies to shoes. I saw a guy coming out wearing a cow suit complete with bell around his neck, some skanky sparkly t-shirt wearing girls going in. At that time apparently only members and people who have a table are allowed in immediately. Everyone else, even if you are a group of 3 pretty attractive girls, have to wait for an undetermined amount of time. The girl at the door refused to give an estimate. 2 hours? 20 minutes? Who knows. We certainly didn’t as we moved onto a different club. Yeah baby sharks are cute but waiting for I don’t know how long to see them on a Saturday night? So if your main objective is dancing and you have no inclination for paying to sit in a club I wouldn’t go to M1NT.

Went there for dinner few times the last 4 weeks. I think the food is good quality, the steaks are really good and well prepared and service is also good. Not too expensive actually compared to other Bund restaurants. If I could make one recommendation, when you order an appetizer they serve it within 3-4 minutes (all 5 or 6 times I've been there over time)..... That is not so pleasant, it makes you feel like you're being rushed and appetizers are pre-prepared. Which I dont really mind that much if they taste good, but at least create the illusion of freshness :-). When you ask them to wait with bringing the main course until you give a signal they do really listen to this. Well done.
The club? Its a good club, good music. I dont really care too much for the people that come there because most of them seem a bit flashy and superficial / all about appearances. Supported by the "member" system. Many goldiggers also, that cant even relax and smile, because they focus on looking good. Ah well, each his/her taste.

Went there last night for 1st time as it was my bday and Macy Gray was supposed to be doing a gig. I say supposed to, she didn't turn up until 1.30am, did short versions of 2 songs, that was it.
Anyway, that's not the purpose of this message, if anyone from M1NT reads these messages, baby sharks in tanks are cute, but bloody hell mate, that is the most uninspiring aquarium I have ever had the misfortune to see. Normally I couldn't give a XXXX about sharks and fish, but they must be going mad in that aquarium. Apart from water and some gravel, that was it, please either make the aquarium more interesting for the residents of it, or put the poor sharks out of their misery.
Thanks

After one year checking out some other restaurants I went to M1NT RESTAURANT again. I am surprised about the bad evaluation of "american" below. The service is still very good. The food remained the same excellent quality. A minor flaw was the appearance of the cheese platter. I would recommend a bit more phantasy, when creating the plate ... looked a kind of boring.

A bit over rated and hyped .Racist to blacks and many colored people(At least not to Chinese because its china otherwise they could be shut down) . Claim to be a private club but strategically used as weapon for social stratification and segregation. Typical expensive club with no respect or importance to customers satisfaction, sometimes the drinks does not reflect the cost unlike many other places with almost the same price tag example (Glamor Bar*) The management is arrogant ,proud and they sucks!! The only good thing about this club is that they spent good money on the interior.
Similar to Seachen (bellow), I went to M1nt with a friend, had instead of my usual beer a cocktail, big mistake; next day had one of the biggest headaches I had in China. My friend the same, and we only had one cocktail, holy cow, who knows what in the %%%%% they pure in the glass. Its almost scary to think about it, I am sticking to bottle beer from this point on, and definitely not going back to M1nt.

Beautiful venue marred by mediocre food and unwarranted wait staff attitude. Still, not a bad place to take out of town guests if you're looking to impress on views and setting alone. If you're a local, you've got better places to treat yourself right, and you know it.

I must say, this place is everything a nightlife lover could ask for. Although this place is well designed to "be seen", the crowd is classy, beautiful and not as uppity as other places I have visited.
Was awed by the shark tank when I first arrived. The baby sharks were sooo cute!
Personally, I am a sucker for good cocktails and I headed straight for the bar by the dining area (away from the nightclub) to test the famous drinks menu. I pretty much read up alot on the cocktail scene in Shanghai and heard that M1NT's bartender Cross is pretty much impressive in his creations.
However, I was sorely disappointed.
He. Was. So. Rude.
I flipped open the menu (everything looked soo good) and couldn't make a decision, hence, I approached him for a recommendation. He shortly replied that everything was good. I went further to probe, telling him that I enjoyed sweeter drinks with strong alcoholic content. He told me everything was sweet. Zilch. Fullstop.
Slightly annoyed by his arrogance, I then approached the other female bartender, who was nice and polite. The drink she made was good as well. Kudos to you girl! I will you all the best.
Everyone else I met that night (including wait staff) were pleasant and polite, and the night went well. I had a really good time and would definitely like to return again. Great view, great vibes, great ambiance and great networking.
Price is on the expensive side, but it's an acclaimed nightlife spot on the Bund, what do you expect?

I went there last week with a friend, expecting a good time given its reputation. The ambiance is decent, the people are all expats, and the food is mediocre at best. The reason they get one star is that they served us fake Johnny Walker. Now, we had pre-gamed a bit at dinner with wine, so we didn't taste the fakeness, but the next morning, I woke up with the worst hangover I've ever gotten in all my decades of life. My friend had similar experiences. It was a pretty low point for what's supposedly a marquee club. I supposed they needed to raise their profit margins.

Of course ... 5 points.

Having been in the M1NT restaurant now 2 times within a short time, I can only say the best. The view is interesting, not showing only nice and shiny Pudong, but also some backyards at the Bund as a contradiction to the glamour world. The food comes like you can see it in the picture above: it is very nicely presented and it tastes even better. I love Jalapeno Mayonnaise coming with the Wagyu beef tenderloin. The rips were so tender, so that the meat almost felt from the bones ... this is, how it should be! The service is great. Different to some other locations, where the waiter even doesn't know the name of the food, our waiter knew even, what we have ordered 3 weeks ago. Very amiable! This restaurant will be definitely on my list among the most recommended restaurants in Shanghai.

Been out of Shanghai for a while, and returned a few weeks ago. Revisited M1NT after a long absence. Felt apprehensive that maybe after the initial push when they opened it would have gone downhill. But I was pleasantly surprised. Service was great, friendly. Tried some new menu items, like the black cod. Delicious, and seems they give bigger amounts of food now, accompanied by rice. Views as awesome as ever. Glad to be back! I never selected a rating the 1st time around, so here it is.

In my view Mint really has to reconsider their door policy. We come with a large group of people, all looking very nice but first we get this stupid "did you reserve" questions, but they let us in, until they see that one of our group of 10 is wearing flip flops (looking very well dressed and wearing good quality flip flops)....They refuse him. At the same time let 3 ladies in wearing flip flops, but.....the rule only applies to men..... Very very dissapointing I have to say and adding to my earlier view of a place that is just trying to be "interesting". I dont think I will go again now. There are lots of other great venues near by

@drunkjohn Please note that as of last month Socitti ceased our involvement with M1NT and no longer provides an 'access-to' platform for that establishment. Should you have any questions regarding Socitti's operations please email us at info@socitti.com. Many thanks.

M1NT is one big con. Like many others that I know I purchased a membership to M1NT not long after it opened as I bought into their marketing about it being an exclusive and private members club. Since then I have seen them allow Sociti guests to access the venue without membership and then to top it all off the roof terrace which is meant to be for ‘members-only’ is full of non-members too.
I have called to complain but only ever get bullsh*t excuses about them implementing a new system soon. I don’t care about my money, they can keep it, but I won’t be spending another penny in there again. I suggest fellow members do the same.

Have been twice now to M1NT. First just for a drink in the lounge. Second time for dinner. Summer grill menu is a good value for the quality and portions of food you get. I recommend the crispy squid. Any seat in the house has great views. Was raining the night I checked out the roof terrace but it looks cool.

The place has great views, looks beaitiful inside and is very service oriented (almost too much to be frank, somebody drops by your table almost every 3 minutes, even with personal stories, I just wanted to be left alone at a certain point, but...all well intended). The food is of quite reasonable quality but nothing special compared to other similar priced venues at the Bund or elsewhere.
The club looks great too and the music is main stream club, quite some older tunes in there for the older audience (like me). On the down side: No dance floor...... What is this in China?? So, like in many other clubs you have to dance in a (fairly well sized) area between sitting areas. People didnt mind and did dance. Not a comfy place though. All a bit posh and nouveau riche like. All about having your own sitting area and chilling from there. Which many seem to like in China.
Another big negative for beer drinkers like me, ONLY ASAHI beer...WHAT is this?? For a big club you'd expect some choice... I was longing for a Corona or Heineken. Asahi is just.....not even in the same league, and I am not an expert or particularly critical of my beers.
All in all a pretty good place and something worth visiting with a group of friends. (but I ran to the Shelter after 1 hour)

Finally got to M1NT last week, after hearing so much hype. Just went for dinner, and was not sure what to expect, based on reviews. I guess I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was going to be really overpriced. Was there on Thursday, which is 50RMB martini night apparently. Both my friend and I really liked our pre-dinner martinis (mine cucumber wasabe, his regular gin), which were full-size and not watered down to match the price. Lounge was cool. Just focus on the gorgeous views and not the larger-than-life hedonist painting in the corner. Restaurant was sleek with open kitchen, same great views. I highly recommend the duck leg & watermelon salad - refreshing! We could not resist splurging on the 1 kilo Angus steak (700RMB!) and it was worth it, altho we needed 2 more people to help us eat it. Service was fast, excellent English, and knowledgeable. Nightcap on the roof terrace was the perfect end to the evening...all in one place. Will be back to try the nightclub side another time I hope.

I still go to M1NT, and think it keeps getting better as they get their act together. "Shareholder" terrace is now open and great for chilling out. I was there a couple of weeks ago when they had a party for the Shanghai Film Festival. Loads of stars were there to accept awards and they all stayed after for several hours on the terrace. I'm no VIP but I personally got to meet Andie McDowell, Halle Berry, Clive Owen, Danny Boyle, Yue-Sai Kan, Quincy Jones and Caterina Murino. Went again last weekend for a dance and it was the best yet. Lots of Michael Jackson in the mix, of course, which helped! Sure the club side is crowded sometimes, but I prefer that over too empty, and I've never felt crowded to the point of irritation or discomfort (that from a claustrophobic). I will keep going as long as they keep making my Manhattans the way I like.

“Goodness gracious mighty me!” as my Georgian aunt used to exclaim! Can everyone get a hold of themselves and calm down! Let me try and summarize M1NT, a place which I have been to many a time. 1- it’s a private club which isn’t really 2- the owner – founder is slick, very slick, think sub-prime slick, which means he could sell ice to Eskimos – admirable in its own way 3 – the club has a history, I went to its earliest version in London and yes, it was closed down. All other commentary on this history is “hearsay” so listen up people, slander is not pretty unless proven 4 – the food, drink and music is average. If it was a golf score, I would give it a double bogey, but hey, its not a double par 5 – whether or not directors are arrested or not, or whether the whole thing is a scam, google “hearsay” and shut up. Finally, just go and have a drink at the bar and find out for yourself. After all pretty much anyone can get in. Just don’t wear a t shirt or sandals. Keep at it M1NT team. If everyone beats up on you, there must be a good reason. Just one request: can you get some decent beer in there? My football mates can’t down your house pour after the 15th pint.

@cityweekend I understand that you have to be fair to all involved. I think the news story is relevant to how well the venue is managed and is as important as the drinks or the music.

@mazzymo and @mister1k We're sorry you're unsure as to why your comments violated CW's posting policy. You seem to be under a false impression that M1NT is a client of the magazine which they are not. An editor will be in touch shortly with an explanation so that you have a better understanding of the policy for future comments.

i agree with mazzymo! so many comment delete that are true. that man who who be arrested in UK was a director in m1nt. m1nt just remove his name from m1nt website after the news. its so clear! i think because m1nt buys many advertising in city weekend. so many fake m1nt comments on here it is funny to me!

I am upset that my early comments about M1NT where deleted by City Weekend.
The comments that were made on here were not saying that is it is scam, just highlighting a news story about one of the directors.
City Weekend permits M1NT to make false statements denying that it has connections to the man arrested although that has clearly been proved that they have, but doesn't allow free speech amongst its readership.

M1NT club is cheap looking with many furniture copy of real thing. how can be private member club for china big business people like I read in newspaper article if all they do is have small foreign dj every weekend. i am shanghainese and none of my business friends want to go to place like this. this is just like all other clubs in shanghai for foreigners. there is so many to choose from.
If i have to decide, M1NT is not going to be my option, everything looks cheap to be a former "member's only" club, cheap fake ostrich leather furniture, drinks made by bols liqueur. My chosen one is Sin Lounge, better service, lovely ambiance and really something new on town.

It's always great to see active discussions about venues but people's comments need to stay specific to the venue at hand and cannot be conjecture. These are two basic principles of the CW comment policy and we cannot allow postings that violate it. If you'd like to review the posting policy you can find it here. If you have any questions, contact us at shguide@ringierasia.com and we'll be happy to help.

maybe this is why m1nt wins 'best new club'. haha lol :):)

Please refer to our website for M1NT directors and management team (http://www.m1nt.com.cn/contact.html) Should you have any questions regarding M1NT operations, we will be more than happy to answer you. Please, email us at info@m1nt.com.cn, or call our office in Shanghai at (+86 21) 6391 3161.

In short: - Impressive venue - Truly horrendous music. Mashup which almost makes the music at Muse seem good..... and - Quite possibly the worst mojitos I have ever had the misfortune of tasting

M1NT's terrace opeing in mid May was mentioned in CW's Drinking Al Fresco story. Read up about this venue and more to make the most out of your summer.

I went to M1NT last weekend and it was rockin'!
Food is great, people are beautiful and the atmosphere is happy. Works for me!

I can't speak for other members, but I joined on the date in question because I finally had a hoilday from work and time to browse the internet. Been to M1NT a few more times and tried the club side. I agree, the music generally was a let down. But it seems they are working on it, slowly realizing not everyone wants to dance to the same beat over and over. Go before midnight and the Canadian DJ Jeff plays what you want. Sean Kingston show the other week was great. Still can't fault the restaurant and lounge side for service, music and food.

word, that's unfortunate you didn't enjoy Baijiu Robot. i can teach grammar, but i can't teach soul.

@heatwolves What is your intention when you complain about somone´s grammar and spelling here? How proficient are you in any foreign language my friend? Is it because you want to boost your ego and show us that you can speak proper English despite the fact that you are from the US? Or is it just because you are often in bad mood as your parties are usually as boring as the Baijiu Robot party at C´s?
by the way..in my opinion M1NT is just average...not too good but also not that bad.

I finally got a chance to check out m1nt over the weekend.
I'll just get straight to the point.
I didn't see too many cheap decor as others has mentioned. The shark tank and the club view was for sure one for the high lights in the club. The designer of the club had the right frame of mind, HOWEVER, the overall layout of the club was a disaster! There was no flow in the club. It was hard to just relax without someone knocking your 50 rmb asahi beer out of your hand (which by the way..... why the hell would you only have one beer for sale? I mean ok...... maybe you signed a contract with the beer company..... but asahi super dry? This is suppose to be a premium club that you have to pay membership fee for and they are serving you 50 rmb asahi super dry beers....lol)
The worst part was that the place wasn't even full at 12 and people were still bumping into each other. (Right a long the bar side... I'm sure people who have been know what I'm talking about)
Oh by the way...... the night I went Jon White was spinning (the old resident dj from attica) The music was horrible! There is a reason why attica closed! Please put two and two together.
I left after staying for an hour. The marketing team did a great job of hyping the place up but the club failed to succeed the expectations.
I give this place a year or two unless marketing and promotion can get their act together.

How odd...... Kelly5 and sarahcape both joined on Dec 23 both wrote very positive reviews?

Different opinions make the world go around. Let's not get personal - spelling and grammar? Come on! As a 12 resident of Shanghai and a very regular patron of the finest establishments in Shanghai it is clear M1NT has surprisingly underestimated the sophistication of Shanghainese and the expat crowd. A little bling, a little flash, a lot of marketing not mentioning the M1NT disaster in London (closed for lack of rental, and stars mentioned as members saying "M1NT, what are you talking about, never been there"), the tanking HK club which I went to (my HK friends said "forget it, are you kidding, you must be from Shanghai!"), and substandard product and they expect people here to go ga-ga. Go for the amusement, if you can get in. Have a laugh and then move on to someplace really nice and subtly sophisticated. However, if you are a nouveau riche and want to flash it around, jackpot!

M1NT has great cocktails, a great view, and friendly staff. I have been there plenty of times when there are very famous locals and foreigners present. Although it has an exclusive feel to it, as a non-celebrity woman, I never feel intimidated there, and find it excellent for business networking.
And following heatwolves' completely off-topic post, what is with criticizing another member's language skills? Especially on a site catering to foreigners or locals who have learned the language. Not very cosmopolitan of you.

I am quite certain that nobody who has actually eaten dinner at M1NT could call their food "average". I eat there at least once a week, sometimes for socializing, sometimes for work. I am not a big red meat eater, but I cannot resist their wagu steak. I find the service impeccable and friendly, never pretentious. I love the lounge side for a pre-dinner drink, or just winding down after a long day at work, enjoying the lights on the river. At least between the restaurant, club and lounge, you have plenty of options depending on your mood. They obviously have put a lot of thought into the small details that you may not notice if you are slugging back large quantities of free champagne. Definitely not a flash-in-the-pan club.

Well, yes actually, English is my third language. How many languages do you speak gentleman?

I personally love M1NT, I think it’s Shanghai new Destination Cool. At least a new casual High end venue, where you can enjoy a pre drink, diner and late drinks, even club, in the same place. And what a place ! The view on the Bund is stunning, a bit off the Hangpu river. I’ve re-discovered the Art Deco building on Fuzhou lu, sipping yummy expresso martini. The bartender was very a delicious cliché of a wonder-host, affable, endlessly accommodating. That night, I bumped into Chinese and expat hip and friendly crowd and enjoy a casual chat. M1NT is definitely on my new Shanghai map. I look forward to trying the restaurant !

Stellar club? Who's who? Sorry, but this wins the prize for the most vapid and pretentious bar I've ever spent twenty minutes in. Though I'm not one of their privileged members, I came with a friend whose company squandered untold sums on the membership fee. I took a few photos of the [miniature] sharks, threw back some free champagne, thought "wow, there's absolutely no one here I want to have a conversation with," and peaced out. Awful DJ playing the kind of house music I'd expect on an episode of 90210 where the kids get a fake ID and sneak into a club. I really, really hope this place fails, thereby restoring my confidence in this city's taste.

After two visits my crowd give M1NT two full fisted thumbs down. Come on! What is the big deal? Average food, cheap decor, and average ambiance offset by a shark tank. We give M1NT < 1 year before it joins the graveyard of Shanghai one-shot deals. What is up with the nouveau riche marketing and the this guy Alistair? Being obnoxious is not a way to sell.

M1NT is a stellar club and was the host of last night's Shanghai 2.0 Cocktail with the "Who's who" of social media, venture capital and social networking.
The atmosphere is divine with great views of the city and the DJ was spinning a mix of trendy and classic tunage.
Having been a benefactor of the free watermelon martinis meant for the M1NT board meeting going on in the main room, I transitioned into a great side bar with a chillout vibe.
Next Step is the next in a hopefully long list of networking events to come for M1NT. Great staff, cool place and sweet lighting mixes well with me.

M1NT rocks and that's it. @oljackburton kid, have you ever heard that tune by EPMD - "You gots to chill"? Probably not because when I was partying with classier people than you... you weren't even born. So that's the message for you - chill out. a) I'm not an English teacher, and what's your problem with these good fellas? Be thankful they're indirectly helping you get a drink at M1NT even though you don't speak a word of Mandarin. Back in your nation they'd be unemployed and on welfare cheques, so be glad; b) I can get in and out of M1NT without paying any membership fees nor by begging bouncers with the "I have friends from abroad waiting for me upstairs" excuse you regularly use (unless you actually work at M1NT); c) I can definitely tell you that (back in the days) my game did work - maybe I possess more savoir-faire than you do, sorry about that mate; d) I like shark tanks (sorry mom) and love beautiful women, and I like M1NT - I am not mad about people enjoying the environment because I do too, but do you know what "parvenu" means? Reflect on this; e) Poor choice of drinks? I'm sure you won't be able to tell a Crystal from a Cava by the way you sport that bottle of Er Gou Tou in your profile picture, so STFU.
