City Weekend says

This place has the intimate atmosphere of a back room with comfortable chairs and sofas and soft, ambient lighting. With good bar snacks and a solid happy hour, the back room's deliciously zesty Cuba libre makes this unassuming joint a draw among foreigners working around People's Square.

Issue 22, Shaken and Stirred: Sipping Your Fruits & Veggies

Re-opened and back from its annual summer hiatus, Kathleen's 5 BackRoom is, well, back in business, boasting not only its regular cozy lounge space and unique bird's-eye view of the city, but also a new lead bar man, Allan Wu, co-founder of the Hong Kong bartender competition and former Bar Manager of M1NT Hong Kong. With him he brought what he calls, his signature drink list. "When people hear names like Lychee & Kaffir Lime or Grilled Pineapple Luxury Fruit Martini, they know it's me behind the bar,” he says. The name that raised our interest though was the Apple Chili Cucumber Martini (RMB80). Made with a slice of chili, fresh cucumber, Sky vodka, green apple liqueur, a mix of fresh lemon / lime juice and a few other secret ingredients, this drink veers away from the singular flavor common in many fruit martinis, layering fresh, sweet, sour and spicy flavors into a complex arrangement that had our eyebrows raised and had us asking for a second round.
