This small neighborhood bar serves a plethora of rare and expensive Belgian brews, along with other select imports, although there are only peanuts and other traditional bar munchies to sop up the ale. The bar's sparse décor, low lighting and few tables create a great atmosphere for those who treat beer like wine and have money to burn.

Dear Beer Lovers In Shanghai, We are proud to offer you a hand picked selection of more than 50 of the best beers available from Belgium. If selection is important, you can chose from a portfolio of over 80 beers, including Trappist, Abbey Ales, Blonds, Tripels, Lambic's, Strong Dark Ales, Stouts and Porters to name a few. Some of these are rare and only available at Kaiba locations.
Its is true, we may not have the most beers in Shanghai... bet you can bet we have the best.
While our main focus is Belgian Beer, as true beer lovers, we can not help ourselves to respectfully include high quality craft beers from breweries based in American, English, Australian, German Beers, Japan and Spain from breweries including Samuel Smiths, Brooklyn, Fullers, Rogue, North Coast, Ayinger, James Boag's, to name a few.
528 Kangding Lu
Is in a cozy little corner of Jing An, between Changde Lu and Xikang Lu, in what was Lane connected to an old monastery that is now noted as an up and coming location in Shanghai, 528 Kang Ding Lu.
This neighborhood is shared with a truly authentic Spanish restaurant called Kaluska, a new mini-sportsbar called Crocus and last but not least the Shed.
However, the real charm of this location are the many residents working above the courtyard, a truly amazing selection of world class people and world class companies - we even have a Muay Thai Kick Boxing - Oz Body Fit.
If you like Kaiba at 528 Kangding Lu, please visit our other location in Chang Ning - featuring all our great beers, plus some great casual cafe style food.
Kaiba, Belgian Beer Garden - 739 Dingxi Lu
Note* Drink Specials are at both of our locations.
Cheers!

Quality beer at really affordable prices!

This place is a beer lover's heaven. Got to be one of th best in Shanghai!

A wide selection of Belgian Ales, Westmalle, Duvel, Chimay... you name it, they got it. Once in a while they also have guest ales on promotion. No cooked food served is a bit of a downside also, ales will go hand in hand with some moules et frites! Location wise it's not the easiest to find, and the lavatory is locatd outside, communal to the complex, which makes it a bit daunting to spend a penny on a freezing winter night! Frozen pecker....

Kaiba was mentioned in CW's Drinking Al Fresco story. Read up about this venue and more to make the most out of your summer.

I am so fond of this place, that I am happy to announce the latest updates: Monday- Friday 5- 9pm Happy hour: Duvel (bottle) and Stella Artois (draft) 35rmb, Vedett (draft) 25rmb; Wednesday- Ladies night: fruity beer buy 2 get 1. Here being a female real beer (and not fruity girlish beer-like drink) lover, may I suggest to include a few more items... :) Thursday- Live band quite all night. Now need I say more? It's pure love.
P.S. There is food: cheese, sausage, bread and pizza. 99 rmb or less per couple is irreal, more like 2-300 per couple, and that is only during happy hour...

Damn neat beer bar - very basic (no food; peanuts included free with drinks); excellent variety. It was a pleasant surprise to see the staff being quite familiar with the beers and explaining the tastes, recommending some brews, etc.
I would strongly recommend beer-lovers to visit this place - Cheers!!!

A Potent Belgian, Issue 24
Against the wall of the dimly lit, sparsely populated Kaiba sit three massive, glowing cases of Belgian beers that could tranquilize bears. Certainly an impressive selection, but we wondered whether paying sometimes substantial sums for imported tipples should entitle us to more comfortable chairs to sink into. We managed to claim the only two soft seats in the house, took in the model apartment-like space and enjoyed the robust brews and indie rock playlist. The amiable staff more than made up for the uninspired décor and lack of expected bar fare. Casual but inherently upscale enough for any situation, this bar is a playground for beer lovers willing to pay for their hobby. The heavy selections like Chimay Blue start at RMB55 and climb to over RMB100. For those with not quite as discerning palates, the bar also offers selected beers from other countries, including the stiff Brooklyn IPA for RMB35, although it's the two-for-one Trappist specials that will draw us back.

Great beer selection. Try their large format Belgian bottles, their Delicious!
Venue is conveniently located in a ally behind Park One. There is also a great wine bar, Cuvee, right next door.

In a Shikumen style alleyway in Jing-An there is a new string of bars and restaurants that is worth a visit. On Kangding Lu, near the junction of Wuding Lu, the first of these bars is Exit. A cheap (25 RMB beer, 30-40 mixed drinks) neighbourhood bar, Exit is powered by the personality of owner Sergio who occasionally takes a break from dancing around to MP3s to tell customers about the years he spent making 2.5 million crepes, or when his next batch of Serbian liquor will be smuggled through customs. Judging by the late-night crowds, Basque restaurant Kuluska needs no introduction to Shanghai's Spanish community. The full menu is not yet available, so for now Pinchos line the bar. At 15RMB per snack you can reckon on filling up on these tapas-style snacks for around 100-150 per person. On Wednesday night a glass of decent house wine or beer is also 15RMB. Moving further into the alleyway, Kai Bar is stocking what we reckon must be Shanghai's biggest selection of beer. The main focus is Belgian, but there are also brews from the US, Australia, Luxembourg and Germany. Although not fully open (oh those soft openings, what would we do without them?) until October 18th, this place is already introducing locals to drinks such as Cuvee van de Keizer Blauw which is only brewed once per year (to celebrate the birthday of Belgian King Charles V, naturally). By the time a new wine bar from Matt 'Senses' Ryan opens next month, this enclave off Kangding Lu looks set to be a charming community, like a boozy Taikang Lu, or XinTianDi with a soul. All of the places mentioned are in the same alleyway that starts at 522 Kangding Lu, behind Eight Park Avenue. Opening times vary (in fact we've yet to stay late enough to see any of the places close).

KAIBA on Kanding Lu is my "home away from home" local. Rudy, Elvis, Kimmy and Molly always make me feel welcome. Excellent sellection of Abbey, Trappist and Lambic Biere's, rivalling most western city specialist beer bars. Get the VIP card, it's worth it. Great place to hang out, especially when the whether is warmer.
DingXi Lu KAIBA2 is also happening now and maybe more convenient for those in the Gubei area.
