City Weekend says

Another bar has popped onto Shanghai's thriving craft brew scene with a wide range of Belgian options. Leather couches and exposed brick wall make this neighborhood watering hole ideal for after-work drinks.

Contributor Description

This chilled out bar is a comfortable place for after-work drinks or meeting friends on the weekend. With eight microbrews on tap and over 30 bottles, this is a sanctuary where beer connoisseurs can enjoy hard-to-find favorites like Delirium Tremens (¥65 for 330mL) and Franziskaner white (¥65 for 550mL). Try the aromatic St. Feullien Triple (¥65), a smooth yet strong amber with a distinctive maltiness. Proper glassware and knowledgeable staff make sampling all the more fulfilling. Tasting notes on the extensive menu would be helpful to get our beer lingo up to par.

tried it last night, the pizza plus 2 stella for rmb110. it was okay, everything was okay. the service probably the high point, quite nice and attentive and unobtrusive. my main complaint is that the seating isnt genuinely comfortable. the leather backed bench seating n the front part of the bar had my back hurting within five minutes of sitting down. sort of like no one actually sat on it and tested it out before buying into the seating. a neighborhood bar at least has to deliver comfortable seating. be prices as well are a little steep for a neighborhood bar. in kaiba range. pizza was decent, acceptable. not sure if i would go back without a deal to entice.

De Refter advertises itself as a Belgium beer bar and does quite well to deliver on that promise. The venue is well decorated, not totally unlike the atmosphere and furnishings of Constellation or some other well-heeled locations around town. When we arrived we were the first ones there, but the staff spoke English fairly well and made an effort to make us comfortable. We were promptly presented with a menu of all the beers on offer. One had to assume that they were having issues with their suppliers as the majority of their bottled beers were unavailable (this is completely forgivable as the venue just opened). The selection reminded me a little of the Hidden Tree in Beijing. We sampled a number of their specialty beers and ultimately ended up with an 800RMB bill, unfortunately when we volunteered a credit card we were denied. Apparently at this early stage the venue can only accept cash. In defense of the management, this was printed on all of the menus but unfortunately we didn’t have enough cash on us to pay the bill. This led to one of us having to pop down the street to an ATM to take out some money. This was more than a minor inconvenience and it would have been nice to be verbally informed of this situation before ordering. The owner or manager was very polite and offered to buy us a drink for our trouble which I thought was impressive and went a long way to show that they were serious about having a long term presence in Shanghai. I would give the venue 3.5 stars if I could and I have no doubt it will be a four star location as soon as some of these minor growing pains are sorted out. I look forward to going back and imbibing again.
