City Weekend says

Shanghai's consummate sports bar offers three locations in which to enjoy classic entertainment. Each venue has foosball and pool tables as well as a host of flat screen and projection TVs. Drawing large crowds for events such as the Superbowl and World Cup, this bar has expanded its menu both in quantity of dishes and quality.

Rude staff accused us of not paying the Bill! After finishing eating and paying the bill, we went outside to wait for our friends who were going to the restrooms. An aggressive and blatantly rude waitress accused us of not paying the bill! We stated that we did and she began accusing us of trying to run away without paying. Logically, had we not paid the bill would we be standing outside? Three things are going on wrong here. 1) There's a mess up in the POS system that leads to problems with the orders and the billing. 2) The waitress should first confirm with others if the bill has been paid, 3) The staff should not treat customers as if they were thieves. If you don't want to get accused of running away without paying the bill, don't come here. The situation got resolved when we had to show her the credit card receipt, which I believe she had no right to see. I believe that the management don't have control over their staff, training regarding what was on the menu was poor as many of the staff had no idea that the big bamboo breakfast came with ham, bacon and sausage (they believed you had to choose one). This could come as a cultural disconnect since the management is foreigner run.

Food was great! Portions of the Bamboo Breakfast is excellent and tasty. And the fact that they're showing UFC is fantastic and crystal clear on seems like over 10 screens. One problem is the service. We tried to use a smart shanghai coupon, which is supposed to work from Sunday - Thursday. They argued with us for a little bit saying that it is only applicable after 8 pm. It did not mention anything about that such on our coupon and of course we contested politely. They opened a sample smart shanghai book, and low and behold it stated that the coupon was usable. It's not a great deal of money, but it was more on the principle that they should follow what was printed. What bothered me was that they didn't apologize for being wrong. They took the coupon with disgust and avoided eye contact. Your staff will definitely need more training on being more polite. Other than that I'm sure I'll be back for more UFC and Bamboo food!

You heard it here first. Best Pub Food in Shanghai bar none Had a group of us in over the weekend. Early Happy got a big thumbs up to begin with Jalapeno Poppers were not for the faint hearted and were very tasy. Popcorn shrimp was a HUUGGEE plate and coz of them it loused up my appetite for my main course of Pork Scnitzel with spatzle noodles and red cabbage. it was a big fillet of pork i got and couldnt finish it. There was also groans of dispare from my friends who demolished their Spicy Buffalo Wings and then only ate half of their behemoth Chimichanga which was stuffed to splitting. All these fancy places in town at the end of thew day customers want to feel full and that they got a decent sized portion. Bamboo, your kicking the ass out of Mcmalones. rock and roll !!!

Went there Saturday for lunch. We ordered a Bourbon and the bartender fixed us with Whisky! To their credit we told them and they re-did the drink. then we ordered nachos just to find out they use the cheapest kind of chips in town, the ones you can get in taobao by the kilo and are paper transparent, toppings so so and extremely stingy with the cheese!!! Even at cheaper joints they are more generous with the cheese. Then, it's annoying that they keep this young girls wandering around in that tight white dress and boots . It's a restaurant bar , not a brothel. Ok, probably old-pats might like to flirt and get a disease with these girls but during the day is just NOT FUN! If i wanted to see girls i rather go to hooters (at least there they are attractive) but this bamboo girls make me lose my appetite; they look disgusting and when I'm eating I don't want them any close to my food, who knows what they did 5 minutes ago and they are even touching the cutlery and probably even giving a hand to the cook!! Imagine this girl bringing your weekend fix to your table with ar dirty smile and their tumb touching your food OMG!!!!!!

Loved it here. It does fill with older expats but all the same, the company is friendly and quite interesting. The servers are sometimes a bit cold but overall, great place to be. Not so much into sports but definitely a good place to watch sports!

For a sports bar it achieves 2 of the 3 things that I think are important when watching 'the game' Cold readily availiable beer...tick. High quality visuals and sound from the TV...tick. Good pub food........... Not so much, the burger I ordered was to start with, the wrong way round, everyone knows that the lettuce goes on top of the burger pattie or else the lettuce goes limp and soggy. Burger making 101! Obviously the kitchen staff didn't take this course because there was no mayo or sauce of any kind. And when I asked for it, it never came. Oh well "two outta three, aint bad".

Food is average and the bar fills with older expats as the night goes on, but it's one of the few places in town that has live sports from North America piped in regularly. One of the managers, Lachlan, has a slingbox hookup from Canada.

In a city where it is tough to find sports bars that are open for televised games that start "early" in China — think 12 hour time difference between here and the States — I was very glad to see that Big Bamboo open early for some of the larger sporting events taking place in other parts of the world.

Those are some of the best times to show up to Big Bamboo. You've got a full menu to choose from and you're surrounded by like-minded people also there to enjoy the game. I was satisfied with the Big Bamboo breakfast and a beer, though there wasn't anything particularly special or standout about the meal.

As long as Big Bamboo continues to open up early — particularly Sunday mornings for American college football games — I will be there.
