Shanghai's consummate sports bar offers three locations in which to enjoy classic entertainment with foosball and pool tables as well as a host of flat screen and projection TVs. Drawing large crowds for events such as the Superbowl and World Cup, this bar has expanded its menu both in quantity of dishes and quality.

We like the Big Bamboo outdoor seating area. But we were disappointed with the food. We don't recommend it. My penne was below average. And my husband did not like his burrito. He didn't even finish it, something that is rare for him. Our young waitress made a mistake with our order and it took over half an hour to fix. She wasn't too friendly with us about that probably because she looked too busy and happy with a table of middle aged white guys who were oggling at her. To add insult to injury our bill was 400RMB for a basic meal for two people without desert and one drink each.

I must say that this guy is way, way off base! The comment below has obviously been used here to try to defame, and It is unfortunate someone has chosen to bring up such hated word about such a long standing, established and respected Shanghai entertainment group rather than add any valid observations. Big Bamboo has a hands on Chinese founder/owner as well as a western founder/owner, with a mixed race Chinese daughter, a ton of Chinese friends, and a 15 year history of living happily in Shanghai. Many Chinese managers run the floor and the group has over 200 Chinese staff, many that have worked for Big Bamboo for years and years and all are happy with the way they are treated and respected within the Big Bamboo family. Staff have daily training sessions on how to present the F&B services and hospitality Big Bamboo are well known for and certainly they would never be taught to act as this guy suggests - and for that matter how could he even suggest this - our staff would obviously never tolerate this! For him to say this about Big Bamboo and it’s staff it is obvious he has not frequented the popular venues to see how western and Chinese coexist in a friendly environment. On any given day you will find a diverse mix of people in the bars, with a large percentage of them Chinese. If indeed Big Bamboo was what this guy describes there is no way that such a diverse ethnic group could be found there day in and day out enjoying the surroundings in a such a cosmopolitan way. Everyone is always welcomed at Big Bamboo with open arms, warm hospitality and respect. This is why the company continues to see it’s customer base grow and every day and see more and more frequent – as well as new - Chinese customers enjoying the Big Bamboo experience along with a diverse ethnic mix.

I used to think Big Bamboo was ok - despite being expensive and some dishes not so good. But now I am really offended by the place. I first heard it from a Chinese girl I know, but now I have heard it from more and more Chinese friends. Big Bamboo is racist against Chinese customers. I've been told terrible stories of how rude the waitresses and even managers are to Chinese clientele. Chinese customers are not welcomed in Big Bamboo (unless they are a girl with a White guy). That's not right. I am offended by such things even though I am not Chinese. We are living in China and we should respect everyone. It is terrible to be racist towards Chinese people. The even sadder thing is that it is the Chinese waiters at Big Bamboo who act that way. Who would teach their own waiters to act racist towards their own people? It's awful.

Seriously yummy chicken chimichangas, crispy and full of flavor. Goes great with their pitcher of Sangria, and of course a friend ;-) The environment is 'Sports club'. Everything has a time and a place. I give it a thumbs up.

Not great, but hardly surprising given the poor reviews.
We were here for a little post-World Cup madness and were looking to have the ol' hangovers cured.
The best hing were the nachos - nice and crisp, with good choice of dips. I liked the tangy salsa, we asked for a little more and they brought out more with no fuss.
Our burrrrrrrrrrrritos were another matter though: they seriously tasted like they had been taken out without cooking - the wrap was much like eating toilet paper. Not that I've spent extensive periods eating toilet paper, but you get the picture.
The staff were welcoming, which helps, particularly when the late nights/early mornings have begun to take their toll. Nice to meet waiters with what appear to be genuine smiles on their faces.

The Big Bamboo gets a 2 star rating, by the way, based on the terrible meals that we all ate last night!

Went last night (Sat June 5th). The atmosphere is good in this venue...there is not doubt about it. The drinks are fine (but way over-priced) and the service is OK. The main problem with this place is the food. It is just terrible and they want really good money for what is on offer. I paid 90rmb for a burrito last night and it was shocking. Dry, chewy, poorly presented and lacking any kind of 'love' from the chef. To be honest, we go to the BB to watch the football on most occasions but would definitely go there more if the kitchen could only get its act together. I would say that Blue Frog meals are one step up, and they are nothing to get excited about either! Get it together guys!!!! Look after your loyal clientele a little bit better than what you are doing at the moment!!!

If you are into watching football (some call it soccer) or other sports on TV, this place is not bad. The beer - fine. But the food I had was really bad. Tasted like frozen food, bad frozen food.

My kind of place, I like sport´s so it´´s easy to come to Big Bamboo. Second floor was my place, thanks to Sara, Joanna, Coco, Lily and Cassie too. Nice time to eat, drink and have a conversation with. Good live music very friendly place. It´s perfect for me.
This is basically a weekly hang-out for me and my friends, boys and girls alike. We LOVE it, the people, the place, the food, the drinks, the location. And there's a great place to park our motorcycles right behind the place.
Sure, the place is a bit pricey, but thats a small price to pay for a place like this. No matter what, at all times, when your here, whatever your doing, having dinner, having a drink, your entertained, wether its because of the occasional live music, the countless TV's and projectors showing different sports, the things you could do like play pool, play foosball with your buds, throw some darts, play an arcade game or chatting up a girl, your never bored here.
This is the place to come. We come here for a beer, some Nacho's and a nice and hot dinner before we go clubbing. It's perfect.

I have walked by this place so many times at lunch and always skipped it since it seemed like it would be a much better hangout in the evenings and night time.
However, I finally dropped in for lunch on Sun 10/18.
A review of the menu got my hopes soaring. They had a bunch of good Australian beers... Coopers, VB, Crownies... as well as many others from around the world. So, it seems like a good place to drink. Their food menu also has just about everything available you might want from chicken wings and nachos to pizzas to pastas to burgers to mexican to UK and Aussie favorites. After reading the menu I thought this would soon be a favorite place for me.
Also, the ambience outside is awesome. They have a huge outdoor patio with seating in front and on the side of the restaurant. The dozens of girls walking around in short, tight miniskirts helps, too.
However, unfortunately the service we had was very poor. It may just have been our waitress... or they may just have been busy... but she made 3 mistakes in our order, brought out the appetizers last after we had our mains brought out and cancelled the appetizers, they were extremely slow - maybe 40 minutes after we ordered before we got food, and whenever we asked anything the waitress was rude.
We ordered: 1. burrito - disgusting.. tasted like a microwave frozen bean and cheese burrito 2. nachos locos - not that great, but not horrible 3. fettucini alfredo - pretty plain and sub-par 4. Diet Coke & Ice Tea
For only that, the bill for lunch was over 300 RMB, which is one of the more pricey lunches I have had in Shanghai to date...
So while I think this place has great potential - wide variety of western food and drinks on the menu and great ambience... it is expensive, the food is poor, and the service was bad.
That said... I am willing to to go back a few times and keep trying. I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt... and maybe I will appreciate it more when I am drunk. smile
OK food Flat draft beers Overpriced So so service
