This homey restaurant is run by Aom, a passionate veteran of the Shanghai F&B scene, and her mom, using recipes that have been in their family for generations. They're serving up milder, authentic Thai fare in a rustic setting; we especially like sitting out on their small second-floor balcony when it's nice out.

my thai @ hiro’s – our idea of what a Traditional Thai restaurant should feel like. My name is Angwara (Aom) and together with my mother - Chef Nonthacha and business partner – Hiro Yoshimoto, we run a family-style business that aims to give you a feeling of being right at home in our restaurant. We use traditional Thai recipes that have been passed from generation to generation, prepared with a passion for food and attention to detail. Lovers of Thai food who miss the authentic taste in Shanghai can finally enjoy real Thai food the way it is meant to be prepared.

Don't know at pricing now, since when I went there and food was priced decently, but I can say that the waitress was a complete...well you know. Rolled her eyes, looked at her nails, and deigned to acknowledge our request for water. I really had pegged this as my new place to eat decent Thai, but know I am set on moving my business over to Urban Thai after several recommendations. So sad...

Sorry Alphanu, I am partly to blame for hyping the place. But after going there again last week, I agree with you 100%. Our waitress was also was super bitchy to us---smirking, rolling her eyes, checking her nails. Seriously the rudest server I have probably ever encountered. I guess we were pegged as poors who weren't worthy of her time after we politely asked for water (to which she responded by laughing at us derisively and walking away). Food is decent by Shanghai standards, but the increase in prices has been accompanied by a decrease in spiciness and portion sizes. No wonder the place was completely empty.
I should have not read the review before to go there as It made me have high expectation. We went on a Saturday with friends hoping to have a nice diner. How to say, I would not say the food was but it was a bit flavorless, the green curry was totally diluted (we had at least somebody that knows very well south Asian food and green curry) and tasteless (all of us went to Thailand as well a few times so it is not like we are totally clueless). the portion were tiny. the price without being extremely high were high. So to summary, food wasn't exceptional, portion were small and it wasn't cheap. The service was rude. Also I forget the restaurant don't serve free water (one of the things in my list of not acceptable) and we bought wine (so it is not like we were not spending! anyway in my country we have a wine for each dish and still a glass of water aside), a glass of water is part of the service. As for the Thai rice, I was not impressed (at 10rmb for one bowl) neither. The service was done without smile and the waitress show in her attitude and face her clear annoyance with us. I would not advice this place or at least not for a Friends' diner evening.
I love your vegetarian dishes, especially spicy mushroom salad that one was superb! crazy spicy! will go there again next time when I visit TianZiFang

Sawasdee Kar~~~I am Thai. I love Thai food. I love My Thai@Hiro because here is my home!
Authentic Thai food, Thai music, Thai beautiful women and Thai greeting always make me impressed.
Wowww yummy Seafood Salad, 5 big shimps in Pad Thai, bill checked 100 rmb!!!! Full and cheap.
Trust me My Thai@Hiro is the best choice of Thai restaurant in Shanghai.

Hello Shanghai! I am a Thai student. One day my friend & I went to "Tianzifang" for shopping. Then we had some food at my thai @ hiro. I was very impressed by the decor, music and the most important is FOOD! we ordered a lot of dish, the best we like is " papaya salad " very spicy and I saw Thai lime in the salad ( didn't know that can get in Shanghai too ) " phad thai " just perfect! the taste is very very traditional which not easy to found in the foreign country.
If you want to eat real Thai food, you won't be disappointed here! I will be back again soon with more Thai friend.

The food was decent but not amazing and the portions were on the small side. The pad thai was the best dish, while the yellow chicken curry and sweet and sour stir fried fish were average. Maybe we didn't order their strongest dishes. It's a cosy place but it won't be our first choice for thai food.

I've had the pleasure to both eat at the restaurant and also have them cater my company's 200 person party. Both times I was extremely pleased by the quality of the food, the variety of the flavors, the terrific level of service, and the never ending food! The location of the restaurant is superb and the ambiance is splendid. I look forward to going back again soon.

I went here with a friend and his parents who were visiting during the October Holiday and it went down a treat. I’m a regular Thai food eater, my friend quite familiar and his folks were complete newbies – ( but are now converts) For the newbies we went with some Thai food staples – Fish Cakes, Satay Sticks and Chicken wrapped in Pandan Leaves for starters. All were well presented and tasted great. Our host Aom suggested some wine to accompany our mains but preferring ice cold Singha beer (which we started out with) we were a bit hesitant. Nevertheless we agreed and the wine proposed to us actually went very well with the mains - Pad Thai, Massaman Curry, Green Curry and Papaya Salad – more Thai Food staples. The wine and the Pad Thai were the biggest hits – we promptly ordered another one of each. The salad was suitably spicy for my tastes and the newbies were able to handle the curries which were not overly spicy (as we had requested) Overall – a great experience for all four of us and at under 200RMB per head for alot of food and drink we found it very good valu

love the food..SPECIALLY THE "PAD THAI" i think this is the best pad thai i ever tasted in shanghai.....authentic COLD THAI BEVERAGES...excellent! will come back for some more...

cute little place with an actual vegetarian menu (a rarity for SE Asian restaurants in this city!). pad thai was great, though the red curry with tofu could have used a bit more spice.

My Thai has a cozy, bohemian décor, which we took in from the upstairs balcony while starting with the appetizer plate (RMB72). The tender chicken satay is slightly tangy and the vegetarian spring rolls have a great crunch, but the fish and prawn cakes are forgettable. The tom khai gai soup (RMB48) is a beautiful jumble of coconut milk, galangal, coriander, mushrooms, lemongrass and smoky chili. We sopped up the mild and sweet green curry chicken (RMB55) with crispy roti. The pad thai (RMB62) is light on fish sauce, emphasizing sour and sweet flavors over salty and spicy. With a real Thai chef in the kitchen, the timidity with spice is likely a concession to local tastes. Go bolder and we’ll be back often.[HTML_REMOVED] [HTML_REMOVED]Reviewed in November 2010[HTML_REMOVED].[HTML_REMOVED] [HTML_REMOVED]Our rating: 3/5[HTML_REMOVED]
