Great atmosphere! We sat on the patio and it was lovely. The service was great! The staff was attentive and responded to requests very quickly. We ordered a grilled meat platter amongst other things. The chicken was good, but the lamb could have been better. The yang rou chuan on the street is much tastier than the lamb here. Furthermore, the grilled meats were not too warm. The naan, unfortunately, arrived cool, but when we requested it to be warmed, the waitress was very polite and quick to fulfill our request. It came back warm, toasted, and tasting a million times better. The da pan ji is huge and delicious, we were happy with the boneless option. Xinjiang black beer arrived delicious and cold. Overall, a few problems with the food, but I think these are easily corrected, and that the service, ambiance and other dishes made up for it. Please add more flavour to your grilled lamb, serve your grilled meats warm, and ALWAYS serve the naan warm! When that happens, this will truly be one of the best new restaurants in Shanghai.

Went for a friend's farewell party. Not too sure how to describe the food besides quality Uighur food (yes, I know it's Xibo food) presented well in a nicely decorated restaurant. The service was attentive. If you're going make sure to make a reservation.

Looking at the past reviews it's interesting to me that the bad ones come almost exclusively from uneven service (or policies like minimum charge) since I had a positively awesome service experience there. Got there and it was totally packed, no table in sight, and the really nice owner lady went back and got a new table set up in the lounge which actually seemed to me to be the best table in the place! Free ice water is a nice touch too, without any hassles. And the guy who served us was super nice. So not sure about other issues. Then the food -- best da pan ji i have had outside of kashgar -- delicious!!! some cool original dishes and a beautiful atmosphere. maybe i hit it on a good night but this place rocked!

Disappointing! Strange, cause I didn't even got to try the food. We wanted to book a table on Thursday nigh for a group of 12. The owner decided however that we will be charge with a minimum of RMB180 per person. WHAT? I know from a friend that they spend RMB130 for 2 and had a lot of food. I never heard of this rule in restaurants. We couldn't convince the owner to drop the min charge...instead she told us very entertained to drop our reservation, so we did! I'm a real food-lover, but I can say it take more than just food to make a restaurant work. Luckily for us Shanghai offers plenty of other restaurants. All I can say of Xibo is BAD BAD BAD SERVICE from the female owner!

Wow, a huge surprise! This place is so much better than any Xinjiang restaurant I've ever been to, you really can't compare. The design is beautiful and the food was really good. A bit more pricey than your local Xinjiang place but still inexpensive by most standards. The service was a bit up and down... slow at times since the place was packed. Xinjiang bread was a bit dry and the deep-friend lamb chops were presented poorly, but overall the food was delicious. Will definitely come back when the weather warms up as they have outdoor eating (which was under construction when I was there but quite big)

Had a big wonderful dinner there with a group of 6 last week. Highly suggest that when you go you take as many people as possible - order family style and try lots of different dishes. Only disappointment was a breaded shrimp thing - which could have done with less or better batter. Aside from that one glitch everything was fantastic. Service was fast and attentive. Setting is beautiful. Music is fun. Highly recommend the boneless chicken and potato dish, skewers, cold noodles, fried rice, and spicy beef. Best thing about Xibo - it's a cleaned up version of traditional Xinjiang in a nice setting with 80s music playing. Awesome combo!

A very nice atmosphere, sleek and rustic at once - dim lights and good music. The food was highly stylized, light on the grease and high on presentation - an interesting arrangement for the 'meat wrappers' and on offer 'boneless' landmine chicken. That said, the meat dishes were light on meat and the much talked about eggplant appetizer was a bite sized taste test (with four people we had to ask that they bring out an extra piece of nan triangle as they originally supplied us with three). If you're looking for that xingjiang feast it's best to go to the usual place around the corner, but it is a nice change of pace for a classier night out. A meal here pairs well with a walk down to Dr. Wine or similar Fumin Lu area trends.

Dined here with a large group over a month ago, and everyone was very pleased. Since then, separate members of that group have re-visited Xibo with less satisfying results. Downhill so soon?
On my second visit tonight, the biggest disappointment was the Grilled Pork Chops, which were great on our last visit. I would describe them not as chops, but rather, bones and fat. There was one bite of meat in the whole portion! The lamb skewers were not at all charred and were inferior to the ones found curbside for half the price. Our two appetizers, the eggplant and spinach with almonds were okay, nothing to write home about. The susskind could do with less oil, and the beef in the dish suffered the same problem as the lamb chops--there could have been more meat on the bones.
I find the dessert choices to be odd, as I find tiramisu incongruous with the menu.
I'm pleased to know that this establishment donates to charity, as supporting their altruism may be what brings me back in the future.
On a personal note, I think the female co-owner with the background in hospitality who seems to always be present at dinner time can be a bit more welcoming and friendly. Perhaps she is shy, I'm not sure. In the three times I've encountered her, she's been unsmiling and a not particularly warm host.

All I have to say is what a pleasant surprise. We arrived at the restaurant to be greeted by tastefully, minimalist décor. The food was delicious; I especially liked the little pieces of toasted, spicy naan bread. Another highlight was a large dish of potatoes, peppers, and meat with noodles. We sat outside for the dinner on their patio which had a lovely view of the city. Nice food, nice place and cheap too (we each only paid about 100 rmb)! Can’t wait to go back and try more of their food. :)

Good food, classy, minimalist space. I did a double take on the space - it looked good enough to house a wine bar or bistrow by wagas.
Why haven't more Chinese restaurants done this? It's so nice to have a calm ambiance along with the good minority Chinese house.
Btw, The roasted lamb chops here are delicious. A cautious four stars for now, until I go back a few times. Xibo seems like a keeper.

A bottle of Rioja wine and a big plate chicken with chilled eggplant app on the patio while the sun is going down. Thats what I had and thats where I sat and it was all good. Really nice decor and freindly, service too. Very nice.
