City Weekend says

This restaurant is one of the few Mexican spots out in Jinqiao and is run by the boys from Big Bamboo. It's got a similar (but slightly more festive) vibe, and serves up the usual range of Mexican and Tex-Mex favorites, all served up by their Mexican head chef. They've also got a pretty decent tequila selection as well.

Better than Mi Tierra or Cantina Agave where the food is so dry, and TEXMEX. This place serves better Mexican Food than those two I've mentioned. I like trying out different dish on the menu, and everytime I visit there, their food is just consistently appetizing. Great food, cozy ambience and excellent customer service!

We arrived shortly after 5pm on Saturday and within 15min. the place was full and people had to wait for a table. The nachos, quesadilla, soft taco and burritos were fantastic! We'll be coming back for more!

Great place to Get authentic tastes and flavors...grace the front of the house goddess , is involved in all aspects of service, greetings of welcome back , most by name..impresses the masses! Good simple food presented in a basic straight forward approach ensures customer satisfaction. Margaritas on the rocks,or frozen eases the weeks work stress. Although ear muffs should be allocated to all guests to muffle the constant noise level tolerated ,by the establishment.. of the riff raff running all over the place. Mommy needs both eyes to eat her chicken burrito, and margarita, but suggest you use one to keep a eye on your kids..the rest of us , don't need the toys r us atmosphere.... Other than that a good product to enjoy !

I have an addiction problem and Pistolera isn't helping me. The chips n salsa started it and now the enchiladas finished me off. I don't live anywhere close to Jinqiao, but find myself making excuses to go out there. I would compliment the chef, but since he's Mexican, I'm going to say its not a fair contest. Worth a shot even for the 40 kuai taxi from Jingan

Pistolera is a very enjoyable restaurant with one of the better Mexican food selections in this city. Slam dunk nachos, excellent burritos. That's all that needs to be said.

Have returned 4 or 5 times since my last review. Each time was, at the very least, a 4-5 star experience for kids and adults!

Service is 360 degrees of friendliness and has become quick, intuitive and accommodating - actually, outstanding - and the food has been spot on. The hands-on manager (owner?), Leo, is always nearby to ensure that things run smoothly, too.

Superb hot sauces available as well and always an easy in and out.

Although the margaritas are good and maybe it would be too much to ask, but, especially w/ all those deserving of the best top-shelf tequilas in the arsenal, I would love to see Pistolera step it up a notch and abandon the margarita mix for a fresh assembly. (-;

Kudos for the move to smoke-free indoors!

3rd visit - much like our 1st visit - was the charm . The service, as always, confused, but well-meaning - and the music at airport runway levels (they fixed this at our request), but the food was delicious. Chicken enchiladas, chili, tacos, rice, refried beans, chips and pico all hit the spot. Mexi comfort food in big portions and an array of wild and interesting hot sauces this time! Hold onto your chef, Pistolera!

After a disappointing experience at Mi Tierra and Cantina Agave, I came across this place in Jingqiao that is simply superb. I ordered the Pistolera Nacho platter and it is AMAZING! You can have this appetizer with at least 4 people. VERY generous portions of chili, cheese and nachos served with pico de gallo. The enchiladas were out of this world with a touch of a white sauce that made them melt in your mouth. The barbacoa tacos were little portions of heaven. When it comes to drinks, I had a Tequila Sour and I must say it is two thumbs up! All in all, a great experience and even though I live in Puxi, it's defintely worth the trip over to Jingqiao to FINALLY have some good Mexican food served in Shanghai.

2nd visit didn't go as well as the 1st. We went for the chili cook-off (nice day, nice crowd, decent "semi-live" music) and sampled one round of the fare from each of the entrants. Most were pretty good. Afterwards, we went inside and ordered from the menu. The entrees were as good as last time, but this time, the salsa - or, more correctly, pico de gallo was, instead of thick and flavorful, watery and bland - even sour. Our upscale margaritas seemed watery, too. Hmmmm, feeling cheated. Service was erratic, but saved by friendliness. Even though we sat in the "no-smoking area," we were overcome by smoke wafting from a table of about 10 men seated not far away. We abandoned. So did another table. Not such a good value this time. 2.5 stars. Haven't given up on Pistolera for good, but next time we want Mexi, we will try some other place.

Ahhh, what a nice find in Jinqiao. Pistolera serves up proper and heaping Mexi.

The chips and salsa (more a spicy diced tomato/onion/pepper medley than a sauce) were hard to quit. The salad that accompanied our meals could have used a bolder dressing to distinguish itself as the citrusy vinaigrette dressing was lacking in flavor and volume and the effect was close to eating plain leaves and veggies. The huge bowl of chili was robust in taste and dense and filling - a proper chili. The squadron of tacos were fresh and honest - and not dripping with lard. The mexi rice and even the obligatory, but rarely eaten, refried beans were outstanding. The piece de resistance, though, was the enchiladas suissas (green tomatillo-topped chicken enchiladas). Wowza! Kudos to the chef and kitchen staff!

The margarita of the month was honest and transparent (not clouded by some cheap mix) and plenty potent, but didn't arrive to the table until our meals were nearly finished. Unlike most restaurants/bars in Shanghai, Pistolera keeps a formidable and esoteric array of tequilas on hand. Thank you, Pistolera!

The well-meaning service could use some help/training; the friendly can-do manager was constantly covering for what the waitrons did not.

A few things for Pistolera mgt. to consider: Would be nice to receive ice in our water. Also, missing from the tables was hot sauce! Green, orange, red - not a bottle in sight. Fix that, folks! This is Mexi, not Subway.

Overall, fresh, honest food and drink at reasonable prices. Great value @ 4.5 stars! We left full and satisfied and will return next week for the chili cook-off.

Great tacos - good fillings and the corn tortillas have the proper taste and texture. Such a relief after eating the wonton wrapper-like substitutes served in some other area locales. Very good margaritas, friendly service, nice atmosphere, plus an extra star for putting the joint in Pudong.
