Sunny yellow walls and red brick detailing make this cheerful hacienda-style restaurant an ideal place to fill your stomach with authentic Mexican favorites. The menu features a spicy selection of fajitas, burritos, tacos and enchiladas accompanied by a huge selection of frosty margaritas and tequila shots. They’ve also got live music from Wednesday to Saturday from 7:30pm. The kitchen closes before the bar does, but there is a late-night menu for latecomers.

Shanghai-Mex

Those who want a taste of good ole Tex-Mex, or even vegetarians looking for variety will find enticing, spicy Mexican food at this Mexican eatery which has maintained its charm and comfort after its recent move to Hongmei Lu. Food and drinks are more than satisfying; however, service is a bit iffy these days. Having arrived during happy hour, our feast began with icy buy-one-get-one-free house margaritas (YY50). Homemade tortilla chips and salsa complimented the refreshing drinks. Our hearty appetites dictated ordering featured signature fajita dishes (spicy chicken, YY100, prawn, YY118 and tenderloin, YY110) accompanied by rice, beans and a steamy basket of tortillas. The made-to-order guacamole ceremoniously mixed at the table is worth the YY65 as were a huge, tasty veggie-packed burrito (YY85) and pork chimichanga (YY108) dripping with succulent, slow roasted pork and a delectable pineapple salsa. Though happily stuffed, we shared Oreo cookie ice cream cake (YY50)—it may not be Mexican, but it ended our meal on a sweet note. -Peggy Rosen

I had the opportunity to visit this restaurant during the holidays. I was in the mood for some good home cookin' (I'm from Texas, where there are good mexican restaurants on every corner). The food and service was great.

I took some friends from Shanghai for dinner try some food from my "province". We started with two good appetizers, the dry rub wings and a chicken quesidillas. They were great but it would have been nice to have some green onions in the qusidillas. We ordered thre entres and share. Carne Assada, Steak and Shrimp Fajitas, and beef Enchiladas. The beef was American (yes I can tell) and cooked perfect. The marinade for the fajitas was great. Only fault was bell peppers instead of poblanos with the fajitas and the beans were only warm. During the meal we added some chorizo poppers. Just like home.

We also were in time for happy hour which was great and extended to the pitchers of cerveza. After dinnerdrinks rounded out the meal. A great time. Great food, decent portions (for China) and excellent service. The staff I think enjoyed us as much as we enjoyed them!

Mexico Lindo has been around for a while so wanted to return there after a while. Will I return? We shall see. We were warmly welcomed and our waitress upstairs was extremely friendly and efficient in her service. Food is decent although not at all as refined as the one of some competitors. Drinks are good and cooling for the summer.

Mexico Lindo, you need to improve your service: we were sitting on the second floor and at times strictly no-one was around to care for us. In the meantime, some of the male waiters seemed to eagerly use the wooden stairs as gym equipment, running up and down frequently to fetch things, making unnecessary noise.

Overall it was ok, but nothing much special.

My guy is a big fan of fajitas. So we went to Mexico Lindo anticipating a great dinner. The fajitas were barely average. They can't even make decent nachos. The only saving grace is the specials on the margaritas, which are pretty good.

The first time my bf and I had dinner at Mexico Lindo, we were pleasantly surprised by the truly authentic taste of food, such as tacos and fajitas. It was in March 2008. Then we decided to come back and check out their new location. Oh how DISAPPOINTED we were! The garden salad was dressed with sweet mayo sauce and was simply uneatable, nachos were cooked with nasty tasting, greasy old meat, and fajita was average. Hoping that maybe the dessert would save the dinner, we ordered churros... and what a hopeless case, they came dry with a tiny splash of melted chocolate on top without any dip! We asked the resto's manager if they changed the chef, and the answer didn't surprise us - yes they did. That's how it often goes. Changed the chef, food got uneatable. The result: it was one of the worst meals we had in Shanghai, maybe only dinner at El cubano 1,5 years ago left us more disappointed. Avoid this place for your own good;)

Best Mexican food in Shanghai. We shared the chicken fajitas and they were the best I have ever had...anywhere. The beer is cold, the drinks are large, and the service is ok too. Mexico Lindo is my new favorite restaurant in Shanghai.

I ate here for the first time this evening and thought that it was quite good. It's not exactly the same as the Mexican food back home (which isn't Mexico, btw), but it was enjoyable all the same. I had the carnitas tacos. Filling was great, especially with a touch of the pineapple salsa. The place has added some local flare to fare - tortillas served in steam basket, enormous pinto beans that look like yuandou and Spanish rice that reminded me of my trip to Xi'an. Very nice team working at the restaurant as well.

I used to eat at Mexico Lindo 2-3 times per month. The decor was ok and they had some filipino girls in the beginning doing the service, so it was acceptable. The food was never good, but just ok. Lots of stuff was totally wrong and bore very little resemblance to real Mexican food. The chips were seriously off and the salsa was a joke. Sometimes I wonder if the owner and chef ever really had eaten Mexican food in their entire lives?!

But I could bear the chicken burrito, and so I went back...

Their brunch menu was always strange. Sorta like they really did not want to be open for business, but they did it anyways. The selections were few and lots of "sorry, we do not have that item today" issues.

Then I had a series of visits where the food was really slow, like more than 30-40 minutes to reach my table, and the service staff (locals) was frustratingly bad, and, and, and...Finally I just said "never again" and stopped going.

although pricier than most mexican restaurants in SH, but you do get what you've paid for. Authentic taste and heavy portions, a good stop for mex-food lovers.

good mexican food better than taco bell grande but not much better than a chi chi's or similar chain. mexico lindo has some unique points, however the majority of the dishes are grease and cheese heavy. some bright spots were the table made guacamole, very fresh with an excellent texture, and the prawn fajitas, which were suprisingly spicy. the white bean salad, although an accompaniement, was outstanding, and the flan was creamy and rich as one would expect. worth a stop if you are in hongqiao and looking for something different.
