City Weekend says

"Itadakimasu!" never resonated like it does at this chic bistro. The ifc branch of this popular Beijing restaurant attracts an enthusiastic expat and yuppie crowd that loves their California rolls as much as they love looking good against the minimalist decor. For love at first bite try the Moto-roll-ah and Clayton rolls.

Contributor Description

Having been to both Hatsune and Haiku in Beijing a good number of times, I decided to satiate my Shanghai sushi cravings with a trip to this restaurant. The food, as usual, was good, as was the service, for the most part.

At exactly 2120, a waitress brings over a menu to call last orders. Imagine my surprise when, upon ordering another roll, I am told that the restaurant has run out of rice, completely. Next to be out of stock, just a couple of minutes later, is the tea. After asking them whether they had any hot water (yes), and tea bags (yes), they decided they could make some fresh tea for us. A good ten minutes later our refill arrives along with the manager. She was very apologetic about the whole situation and confirmed for me that in fact the kitchen had not run out of rice. Our conclusion is that the kitchen staff wanted to leave early and simply lied to the waitresses, despite ourselves and another 3 tables still happily eating away.

Needless to say I am hugely disappointed and will not returning to this branch.

I'm not so into rolls, but I come here for the best bentos in town. The lunch bento selection is amazing. Tried nearly all of them. Service is a bit better at nearby Sushi Inc, but I'm sure this will improve with time.

Agreed. The ifc location is a real gem. Hardly ever a wait for tables even on a Friday/Sat night. I like sitting outside on the little "balcony". Feels almost outside. Same attentive service and the food is spot on.

I'm taking this Haiku over the Tiaojiang location. IFC is way quieter, and it's much easier to get a table here. But that's really the only difference — and I wonder how much longer before the IFC location gets jam-packed. Rolls are the same, which is THE reason one goes to Haiku. Word.

A place we always gather for special occaisions. Fantastic roll selection. Consider 'gourmet' sushi!

First time there tonight after going to their Taojiang Lu location several times, great food as always and the interior is nicely done... BUUUT.... I felt like I was in a Chuck E Cheese (or McDonald's Playland I think you get the picture) with so many kids, no exaggeration- there were 5 different tables with kids and one spent half of my meal banging on the table with his tupperware. Hey don't get me wrong- I love kids, but far from a romantic place to take a date which I happen to be on, and let's say she wasn't very impressed. When did Haiku become a family style restaurant?

It's right across from the apple shop, so definitely should stop by when taking a look at apple's latest gadget or if you're working in lujiazui. my favorites would be their Q Roll, Pork Shabu salad, and Butterfly Roll. If you're in pudong, smile, they deliver :]
