Lange is a very solid choice if you are into Italian food. Prices are good, food is good. Hard to find a better value for money when it comes to Italian restaurants in Shanghai.

I'm a big fan of Lange Bar & Restaurant and their cheap, delicious Italian food. It's a solid place to go with friends or for a quiet dinner date - nothing fancy, but great for a Western meal at much lower prices than many other Italian restaurants. The staff are all incredibly polite and sweet, and the manager Shawn is also quite the hottie ;)
I think they're stronger on the pizzas than on the pastas though. My favourite is the Lange Special pizza, which is a sort of Supreme-style pizza and so tasty. It's a thin crust pizza and comes with a generous amount of toppings, and lashes of gooey cheese. Our Salmon cream pasta was good but not spectacular - the cream sauce was luscious and rich, but we didn't like the whole peppercorns (who does?!) in the dish, and had to pick them out 1 by 1. Instead, it should come with a crack of freshly ground pepper and parmesan cheese - now that would make it terrific!

Was there last night for the first time. Will be back regularly. No fuss Italian food and the best pizza I've had in Shanghai so far. Drink prices lower than most western places, great service and a charming manager. If further incentive is needed...they have draft Guinness at about half the usual Shanghai price.
One of the best deals in town. No fuss Italian food at great prices. For dinner, take your pick of pasta+dessert+wine or pizza + 4 beers for 100rmb. The food is quite good as well - the Quattro Stagioni pizza was thin and tasty while the fusilli con speck was delicious as earlier reviewed. The rustic house Sicilian wine was good value and perfect with the comfort food. Service in this cosy warm setting was excellent - perfect for a romantic date. This place is a hidden gem - a good home-style Italian at last!

I noticed the review this past month in cityweekend. Its very close to my place and went there this weekend. Not to much to say. Rating on how satisified i was with my lunch there. I would say average. The atomosphere was very simple, lacks some creavity. Food was simple as well, but with italian food, simple is okay. Again just average. Good luck

It’s nothing new and it’s nothing spectacular, and that’s why it works. Lange is just another neighborhood Italian restaurant. It’s got the romantic mood music, the comfortable chairs, the dim lighting and, of course, the appetizing yet entirely predictable roster of pastas and risottos.
This Jing’an eatery is owned by an Italian chef who spent time working in five-star hotels, but chose to go back to the basics with his own restaurant.
Warm garlic bread quickly arrived at our table as the attentive manager, Sean, opened a palatable bottle of house wine (¥98). The Caesar salad (¥28), heavily lacquered in a creamy dressing, lacked the tang of lemon juice, but a hearty garden vegetable soup (¥23) set the stage for what was to be a well-portioned and inexpensive meal.
The large pasta menu includes nine different sauces to mix with nine different pasta varieties for ¥50 each. We opted for a flavorful fusilli with smoked ham, cherry tomatoes and creamy mascarpone cheese.
The risotto with tomato sauce and seafood (¥48), made with imported Arborio rice, had a fragrant essence of shellfish, but was far too dense. However, the caramel gelato that came with a tasty Italian apple pie (¥28) was nothing short of spectacular–creamy and unique. Lange is not a destination restaurant, but if you are in the area and want a classic Italian meal, it won’t disappoint. Jordan Calinoff

Had dinner here last night with friends. Wonderful atmosphere and very relaxing.... Music was Italian and they have great pictures of Italy on the walls.. The food was brilliant and the service was impecable. Prices are more than reasonable especially the drinks.... Cocktails 30 RMB... must be the cheapest in Shanghai... Had the Antipasti for openers which was light and pleasant but really opened up the appetite. Then had the Seafood Pizza which was simply delicious.... real Italian with a thin crust... SUPERB. Dessert was a stretch but after the recommendation from the manager (nice fellow and very hospitable) tried the Tiramisu and glad I did.... it was sensational... best I've had in Shanghai. My friends had the Pasta (various types) and ALL were exceptional. Will deffinitely be back for more..... A truly lovely dining experience.. Thx.

decent food, but pretty close to the worst service in shanghai - god do they hate you, and very quickly you will grow to hate them too
i'd rather spend three times as much for decent service, and not have to put up with the sour-faced sneering of the staff there
