This pint-sized Italian eatery holds its own thanks to the low-lit atmosphere with intimate tables and cozy wall paintings. The trattoria serves simple but excellently prepared dishes like fresh seafood and homemade grappa. Grab a table in the private nook off to the left for one on one conversations.

This is the worst restaurant in Shanghai.
I live in Shanghai since 8 or 9 years, and this joint must have been around for some time. It clearly survived its days when it was one of the few restaurants offering Italian food. These days are over however, and you do have much better - and cheaper - choices than this restaurant now.
My wife and I went to Bella Napoli for dinner just before October holidays. It was a bad idea. The ground floor stank suspiciously like fresh paint, and the upstairs looks like the boss forgot that guests sometimes eat there. 3 - 4 items on the menu were not available, including the home-made tiramisu, which was the reason my wife dragged me here in the first place. So we had to settle for a lasagne (which was bland and boring) and tortellini. The tortellini were tasting funny, and when turned around, were clearly of an older vintage. Obviously this was also the last batch available in the kitchen, and the restaurant prioritized lean inventory management over customer experience in this case.
The real dealbreaker however was the insalata caprese, ordered as a started. 4 slices of tomato, with 4 slices of mozzarella, and a little olive oil. Taste was indifferent. Price: RMB 97 (!). We complained that the pathetic set of 4 tomato slices could never worth 100 kuai - the staff was embarrassed and explained that normally they put on 8 slices as it is an exception that 1 table counts only 2 people.... I had a look around and all the other tables had only couples, not larger groups.
It was quite clear that 1) the manager was not in the house on that day, 2) this restaurant's business model is all about squeezing the most out of stupid guests as possible, 3) there are restaurants that offer better food at better prices (i.e. Da Marco), 4) the ambiente may be cute, but in this case only the decoration for the rip-off of your life.

I've only been here once and can confirm that the food here is above average with decent service and little atmosphere.
I recommend the carpacio which was perfect but stay away from their pastas which are a bit bland. The lasagna was inedible.

been there last week, great food, but the service seems need to speed up a little

Bella Napoli was very good, but a little bit expensive for the tiny portions that were provided. Great atmosphere, seemed very authentic!
Excellent and reasonably priced food, unpretentious and cozy interior, excellent!
One of the owners used to be the manager of the Italian restaurant at the Westin. Great to see he's doing well on his own now.
Vincent Tin, sir i think she just respect the culture of you both, dont think too much, why you pretent to be not knowing Chinese when you already are?
such a quite and heart warming decor reminds me about those brasserie along Seine, i went there twice and surely will do more in future.

The ambiance, the menu, and above all, the great flavors make this just about the best Italian restaurant in town. Small, cozy and unpretentious, it's not cheap, by any means, especially if you have wine with your meal. But this is a case where the high price is completely justified. I have had the salmon, the veal, various pastas, and salads on different occasions. Not once was I disappointed. And they have a very courteous staff, not coincidentally, under the watchful eyes of the owner who seems to be there all the time.

Last friday was a revelation. I remember this place when it was stillcalled Pasti and doing decent noodle at buget prices. Fortunaltely the decor, ownership ad whole concept has been redesigned and upgraded to a fullblown trattoria style eatery. Appetizer Vitello Tonnato did not disappoint ...and i got disappoined on this dish quite a lot in Shangers. The sauce was subtle and dit match the tender veal and the acidity balance of the capers well. My main a fillet of beef ROCKED. Seriously at the price of 150 RMB this was excellent value for money. Desert is a must-do , i personally think it's one of the bst tiramisu in the city... I'll be back !
What a treat. Quaint atmosphere, great food, good wine selection, good service, a little pricey but well worth it. A great place to take a date or your wife...or both. We will be back for sure.

Bella Napoli is a typical Italian "Trattoria". Tiny restaurant with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Excellent and genuine food. Fresh ingredients. And what it is more important it is a real "Made in Italy". The prices are low. When I worked in Puxi I had their set lunch everyday. Now I go there very often during the weekend or for dinner. I am always satisfied by the service, the quality of the food, the variety of the dishes and the kindness of the staff.

Small and expensive portions, but good food. Rude waitress: I had ordered (in English like the rest of my friends and got replies in Chinese) a "Penne, Gorgonzola and Sausage" dish. The Penne dish came, as well as a Sausage dish. I told the waitress I hadn't ordered the Sausage dish and she told me that she'd pay for it (none of my bloody problem, isn't it!!!). I made sure to check the bill to see if she hadn't double charged me.
My first time here, I walked in and was greeted by a real Italian! Excellent first step. Then I was promptly seated even though my dinner companion hadn't arrived yet.
While I waited for my friend, I looked over the menu and was pleased to see all very authentic Italian dishes and multiple courses. Once my friend arrived we started with a bottle of red wine (I can't remember what is was...maybe a Sangiovese?) and the prosciutto/mozzarella cheese appetizer which was excellent. Very fresh ingredients. I had the gnocchi and my friend had the sausage with roasted vegetables (which were a special request and the chef was more than happy to accommodate). Excellent service.
Sadly, we didn't indulge in dessert, maybe next time - I will def. go back!
**The restaurant is tiny, so if you're not comfortable with close quarters and small tables think twice before going.
Good quality food at a really high price. Lunch deals are reasonable value but the portions are a little small. Dinner is a rip off.

Excited by the new pizza oven, we arrived for dinner on a Saturday night. We order two standard pizzas. They arrived quickly and the presentation was ok. We were disappointed that the crust was thick and burnt with a very bitter taste. What was worse was the tomato sauce was watery and caused the base to become soggy (like soup) after only minutes of arriving at the table. All of the toppings tasted like they'd been preserved in water from the huangpu. the pizzas at Bella Napoli are by far the worst I've even eaten and I will never eat there again!
