Hot pot meets haute couture at this steamy eatery. The chic, crimson-laden Dolar Shop is all about individual style; each patron gets their very own (mini) steamboat, plus a choice of soup base and the opportunity to concoct their own dip or create their own fish or chicken leg balls.

Went there to celebrate a friend’s 21st birthday. Have always thought of what the hype is all about when I see the long zhi meng branch on the 7th storey with so many people queuing up to get in. its almost full every night…we sat down in one of the rooms without having to wait because one my friends went there earlier. I realized, after I got in, it’s a higher class self small pot. U can choose the food too from golden mushrooms to top grade beef.. everyone had their personal hotpot.. we ordered prawn balls which were awesome, a plate of mini crab shells with some sort of crab meat in it, the usual vegetables, 3 different grades of beef, meatball and few different types of mushrooms. I guess the price you are paying is for the cleanliness of the food compared to the roadside hot pot stalls u get. Each of us forked out 90rmb for the meal but it wasn’t too filling.. overall experience 7/10.. they have good service staff too, but not as extremely friendly like the staff in HAI DI LAO..

love the small, individual pots here. the mushroom base and sour vegetable and fish base are my favorites. and they have a sauce bar. A sauce bar! tis awesome.

Food is good, but the individual pots really take away from the hot pot experience in my opinion. If you are fine with individual pots or prefer it even, give it a go.

this one is ok.
yes, it is fantastic that the hot pots are individual and you can choose your base and sauces. staff are very nice also. so i give it points for that.
however, i found the flavors generally forgettable. maybe the soup is too clear or i chose the wrong base - the ma la one. but flavorwise the little sheep beats it by a lot. even my local hole in the wall hot pot joint beats it in that department.
the interior is cool, but the place is so crowded that it is hard to appreciate it.

I believe there is one in the Bailemen Hotel on Nanjing Rd near the Jing An Temple.
This used to be my favorite Hot Pot place, but Hai Di Lao (still a secret to foreigners, I suppose) beats it out hands down. Still this place is very good. Good food and presentation. And unlike Little Sheep, it's not a dive, you don't worry about the cleaniness, and the broth is tasty but not full of MSG. The sauce varieties is a plus, but no longer unique (Hai Di Lao is just as good if not better).
Like Hai Di Lao, you have to wait, although I'm not sure if you can make reservations at Dolar Shop. There's a reason people are willing to wait though.

This is one of the only Hot Pots I'll go around the city. Like leemack stated, there are always tons of people lining to get in and for a good reason.
The wide verity of selection and sauces makes Dolar Shop stand out above all.
Would recommend to any visiting or living in the city!
This is easily one of the most popular hot pot spots in town with long lines for both lunch and dinner. Me and my girlfriend planned for days to go there and had to make reservations a day in advance just for a sunday lunch. crazy good!

I always pass by this shop and see a crazy Q outside, which leaves me to wonder what's the buzz! So I decided to check it out one day with a friend. Got a comfortable seating after 15minutes of waiting, and I must say, I was very impressed by the decor and cleanliness of the place!
The other steamboat shops which I have visited in Shanghai usually presented poor hygiene and presentation.
The staff were pleasant and nice, and you could pick individual soup bases (own pots) and put in whatever you like.
There was also a cosy sauce corner where you can create your own sauce according to your personal preferance!
Most importantly, I enjoyed the cleanliness and professionalism of the place. However, the service was slow and the food took pretty long to come.
Enjoyed the complimentary red bean and glutinous rice dessert which they served at the end :)
