This slick UK import is set in a four-story spot featuring four different concepts. The top floor offers barbecue options, the third is a lounge bar, the second is a "gastro-grill" and the ground floor is a bakery cafe. You'll find everything from French bread to roasts and Yorkshire puddings within.

UK based glo London opens flagship store in Shanghai
United Kingdom based glo London will open its flagship store in Shanghai on Thursday June 2, 2011. Located in the fashionable French Concession area, the restaurant is set to bring the cosmopolitan taste of London to China and aims to set a new standard for Western cuisine.
To celebrate this exciting launch, glo London, will be giving our first 100 customers one of our signature Mojito cocktails to enjoy with their meal.
glo London first opened in the UK capital in 2003 with the subsequent restaurant brand opening in Reading, West Hampstead and Walton-on-Thames shortly after. Building upon an award-winning combination of international cuisine and world-renowned cocktails, glo London strives to deliver best-in-class quality, value and taste. Lead by Group General Manager Gavin White, our London team has gone to considerable lengths to bring the same quality food and stylish surroundings, both of which are synonymous with the name glo in the UK, to its new Shanghai branch.
Gavin White, himself one of London’s finest hospitality professionals, began his career training at the world famous Savoy Hotel. His team, now based in Shanghai, was flown in direct from the UK’s capital to ensure the authenticity, consistency and true original taste of glo London is brought to Shanghai’s cosmopolitan dining scene.
glo London’s flagship site in China is a food and drinks destination, with each of glo’s four concepts given their own home across one of the venue’s four floors.

I give Glo a lot of credit for both the taste and presentation of its food. Breakfast from Glo is fantabulous. Adding a shake to drink is a bonus.

OMG.. just called them a min ago at 2140h and got frustrated with the first person who picked up the call. I tried speaking English as I was greeted with English. She couldn't take in simple reservaton. I told her LUNCH and she said DINNER.. omg.. I thought I had a speech problem. Then tried speaking to her in Chinese and she paused and paused and went silent every few seconds. Asked to speak with the manager and was told that she was the only one left.. what kind of service is this? The website says that the restaurant closes at 12am but she insisted that she was the only one there. So I did ask for her name (TWICE) but she refused to give me her name. The management should have enough details to find out who she is.. Please don't put such a person as your first line of defense... Lousy!!!!!!!

was here at the lounge/bar early on a weekend evening for drinks. not a bad place to start the night -- swanky but comfortable. enjoyed a decent mojito.

Twice is a charm as one might say....second visit to GLO, this time for lunch, was on for today. Set is at 100RMB for starters, main and desert including a drink. 12:30..the second Floor was empty (filled up a little more after1 h). We went for the Samosas ad Chlli Calamari rings to start with followed by a london chicken tikka and a pizza as mains. Appetizer & main are served on one plate ad the portions are not huge but totally sufficient. The Samosas were the better deal in flavour and texture, then again..calamari tend to be rubbery in most cases (sic !). The main courses were equally presented nice and delicious in taste, Great pizza dough and well presented. The curry was maybe a bit watery in texture but made up in full marks on the taste. Coffee was great together with the YUMMY Bread-pudding and the Strawberry cheesecake. The latter was OK, but a bit weak on the actual CHEESE flavour. All in all an OK deal i'd say. Will be back.

Below Par......had a lunch set in Glo last week. Interior is nice, staff tries hard but still a lot of work to be done. Sets are well presented, but dishes lack some taste and are so small, that It made me directly run to Anadolu for a wrap for desert....no reason to return.
I've been to glo twice; once with a seasoned foodie and once with a large group of friends. My intimate dining experience had a few notable stars: the fries [chips] were triple fried perfection and the duck samosas were a solid choice. The ribs were a huge disappointment since my dining companion and i are both from BBQ land and don't appreciate anis in our sauce and ribs that are more fat than meat. Our meal was redeemed by dessert, which had some winners and losers. The cheesecake tasted like it used strawberry flavoring while the toffee dish was excellent. it was like a blondie with a scoop of ice cream. we ate every last bite. When i returned with friends we dined on the meats; ribs, steak, porkchops and chicken and some delectable sides. everyone was loving the garlic mashed potatoes and the chicken made up for how dry the 'chops were. It was decent food, but far too pricy for what you get!

Went to the bakery couple of weeks ago, had the set lunch both my friend and i thought it was really average, the pie was terrible its as if they used sweet pastry for a savory pie. Also on the set lunch you cant swap coffee for a coke only coffee or water. Don' t think i will be bothered trying there pricey carvery now.

never new there was so many food/drink experts in this city , i had the ribs and a few cocktails , music not to ear bashing over all good night shall return.

A friend and I went to Glo London to check it out and I ordered the ribs as suggested by the cw reviewer. The meat was not fresh and the sauce tasted like it came out of the Heinz bottle. I mean it's China, the pork ribs NEED to be fresh. The staff was very accommodating offering us to try different kinds of wine, for sampling, but my friend's salad was mostly lettuce with a few measly chick peas. We didn't try the bakery downstairs but we had some of the breads on the bread plate which made me feel like they were of that kind of baked good which looks Western on the outside but is Chinese on the inside (i.e. spongey light consistency) like La Paleta. Overall super underwhelmed. I can't believe this is supposedly a big British brand! We know that there are great gastro-pubs in London, but Glo London feels a lot more like the stereo type of British cuisine.

Yo Glo. Nice try. Really. I have to hand it to you..the One stop shop in one of the previous hottest locations of the french concession....well, today we only experienced solid mediocracy. Admittedly- we walzed in on sunday at 1:40 without a reservation. 3 adults one toddler (the toddler did not walz yet though). 1st point: Nobody at the reception..the bakery looked clean & friendly and 30% populated. We headed to the second floor and the friendly wait-staff told us to be patient for 10 min..the place was jam packed (and it was pouring with rain outside). Decoration? Overall..well...modern if you like pseudo-brit-80s chic. We waited one floor up in the lounge/bar area where we were told no food was served...despite there were 3 tables...with people...and food...umm..ok maybe government food testers or friends of the owners? Nevertheless we got our table. And 10 min later-after i inquired- a menu arrived. GREAT i thought and started silently choosing...and when ordering was told only brunch or carving were available. HERE'S AN IDEA: Don't ever do that again. Have a friggin brunch menu. Ok, moving on. I went for the eggs benedicte and a yoghurty drink to start. In all fairness: both were fine and 130RMB for the combination was ok. But exactly that and not better than ok. I can do average food any day of the week. Hence: Underwhelmed. Same goes for the other 2 diners (fruit/yoghurt honey appetizer & omelette as main, receptively yoghurty mango drink and toast with mushrooms). All as cooked well, sides of mushroom, cherry tomato, ruckola and grilled potatoes. Safe and unimpressive -bordering on boring. The carving station looked way more impressive and the gentleman manning it was chatty & friendly. So all in all ok service, ok decoration, ok food...but as Simon Cowell probably would say: rather forgettable.
ladies night here was all class. cocktails were great - especially the mojitos. while the strawberry mojito was a bit too syrupy, the lychee, blueberry, and cuban were all excellent. atmosphere was solid and unlike some other ladies nights ive been to, the men seemed slightly less lecherous.

I tried Glo twice now... once for dinner with a larger number of people (10+) and last Sunday my friend and I went for the brunch. For dinner, I shared a salad (chick pea and roasted veggies) as well as a pizza. The pizza was delicious and came with rocket which I love and is hard to find in Shanghai. It was presented on a board with nice deco (a tiny salad) and some little dips of pesto, oil and balsamic and salt if I recall correctly. Loved that they served pesto with it and I have honestly never seen that before, anywhere! The salad was very yummy as well, with a good portion of veggies in it. What I really appreciated was, that not only was the food great and nicely presented, but it was all served at the same time which is rare if you dine out with a larger group of people in Shanghai. Sunday we tried the brunch without a reservation. We arrived at about 12:30 and the place was very busy. My friend ordered the two course and I got the 3 course brunch set. The smoothies came first which was great as we were starving and they held us over plenty till the next course came. I had the fresh fruit and yoghurt with honey next… a nice variation of fruits with a little bowl of yoghurt to dip them in. As this wasn’t too big and very light I had no problem continuing with my eggs Benedict w/Salmon. The poached eggs were done excellently (not to runny and not to hard) and were served on an English muffin with sauce hollandaise and smoked salmon. I am not sure, but I would guess that the hollandaise was home-made and will be sure to ask next time. Rocket, roasted veggies and potato cubes were served on the side. It was a delicious breakfast and I was very pleased with my choice. Considering the place was packed, I appreciated the little wait during the courses as it would have just been too much to eat it all at once. My friend had the big breakfast with plenty of meat, eggs, bread and hash browns. Apparently this meal held him over the entire day! After brunch we had a coffee in the lounge which to our surprise was also quite busy with people having brunch and trying the Sunday Carvery. We enjoyed our brunch experience a lot and will be back very soon… good food, a nice atmosphere and also comfy corners to relax after a delicious and filling meal!

Glo London is about as branded a name as you can get. It is unfortunately one of the UK's representatives in Shanghai. Im sorry but Shanghai is better than this and has moved on, only a certain type of person would go here. This place is not representative of 'cosmopolitan London' as they so claim. You can start with the tacky cube sign they made above their entrance, then go from there...

I went sunday with some friends and it was terrible! terrible service , the food took one hour to arrive and we found out it was that the waiters forgot to put the order in. One hour later the food came , they got everything wrong , and the food was not even that great! I would never go back again! terrible

Had a great dinner here last night! Food was excellent, the drinks were yummy and I really enjoyed the ambiance. The staff are friendly and accommodating and all in all we had a great time.
It's so nice to have a new dining option in Shanghai, which offers so much all in one establishment. I'm looking forward to hanging out on their terrace once the rain stops.

I went to the opening of Glo last week, and let me tell you, it was greaaaaat! I have been to the original Glo in London a few years ago, and this tops it! The atmosphere was excellent, the restaurant is beautiful, the staff were very fast and helpful, but most of all the food and drinks were fantastic! i HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to everyone!! Well done !

Wow, wow wow ! Lucky me, this fantastic restaurant/bar/bakery and rooftop BBQ has opened 5 mins walk from 'Shanghai Library' on Line 10 and just 3 mins walk from my apartment in Ambassy Court. How many places that you go in to for the first time make you feel so relaxed and at home? We had Lamb Cutlets which were fantastic, the starters just brilliant and as fort the home made deserts - you could not fault them. I would rate this Michelin starred and with reasonable prices. Look its going to be my local now so I'm pleased as punch about that. Top Job to all the staff in all your roles, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by a very fussy person - me :)

glo London has four floors–level one is a casual bakery and café, two is the lounge bar, three is the restaurant proper (the “gastro grill”) and four is the rooftop bar. We tried the gastro grill level, and though it has potential, it’s still got a ways to go.[HTML_REMOVED][HTML_REMOVED] To start, we ordered the delicious-sounding crab croquettes (RMB70) and the bleu cheese, avocado and pear salad (RMB70). These were the two most disappointing dishes of the night. Three bland crab rolls, served with three squiggles of sauce and an onion-heavy side salad, were dwarfed by the plate. The salad, with good bleu cheese, pear and bare slivers of avocado (10 percent) on a bed of defeated mixed greens in pesto dressing (90 percent), was not as memorable as the silver-tongued menu writer would have you believe.[HTML_REMOVED][HTML_REMOVED] From the mojito-centric drinks menu, we ordered a fresh blueberry mojito (RMB65) served with a fresh kebab of blueberries and a lemongrass wokka (RMB65) that tasted like lemongrass, lychees and summertime. Both are divine.[HTML_REMOVED][HTML_REMOVED] Our entrée, slow-cooked, hickory-smoked ribs (RMB145), was slathered in an addictive, sweet, homemade barbecue sauce, and we appreciated that glo wisely gave us a gravy boat of it along with some onion rings, roasted cherry tomatoes, steak-cut fries and salad on a charcuterie board. Dinner was becoming enjoyable, until our waiter, intent on removing the charcuterie board for some essential purpose, seized the board and smushed a used napkin into our remaining food before we could protest.[HTML_REMOVED][HTML_REMOVED] We moved quickly onto dessert, a big slab of moist chocolate brownie (RMB60) with honeycomb ice cream. The chocolate dulled our irritation considerably.[HTML_REMOVED][HTML_REMOVED] New restaurants always have kinks to work out and glo is no exception. For now, we’ll stick to the barbecue and drinks.[HTML_REMOVED] [HTML_REMOVED]Our rating: 3/5[HTML_REMOVED][HTML_REMOVED] [HTML_REMOVED]Reviewed in July, 2011[HTML_REMOVED]
