City Weekend says

Named by Conde Nast as one of the world's 50 best restaurants, this chic assignment in Asian-inspired fusion cuisine is as devastatingly handsome as it is delicious. Everyone looks good in the dining room, where plates like seared king prawns and roast wild duck with chestnut puree are served in a buzzy atmosphere.

Second Bite | Swede-dish

With new Swedish chef Roger Johnsson at the helm, this fine dining favorite is gravitating towards Scandinavian dishes with Asian influences. Their ambitious new summer menu focuses on seafood dishes with whimsical touches. Our lobster ravioli (¥127) didn't bow its head towards tradition, blowing us away with its topping of mushroom and spicy cashew salad over a seashell-like ravioli on a bed of refreshing jicama and green mango slaw surrounded by stars of sweet rice wine foam. It's a dish that warrants slow, appreciative bites.

Another winner from their tasting menu (¥788 for seven courses) is the intense mouthful of cured salmon and goat cheese roulade, the fish juxtaposed with a sweet corn soup on the side for a cool one-two punch. A classic preparation of a giant bacon-wrapped scallop came seared crispy with golden edges and bursting with flavor. The only entrée that disappointed was the seafood lasagna (¥128), which wasn't very flavorful or moist. Still, T8 is worth revisiting for its palatable attention to detail.

Great dining experience! Excellent fusion of flavors with every dish ordered! Would recommend T8 to anyone looking for a bit of an upscale menu and a great wine list!

I think I may have found Shanghai's best pancakes. I went and had the Champagne brunch over the weekend and ordered them as my dessert (an excellent move on my part). It was honestly the most perfect pancake I have ever had. It was light, fluffy and slightly crispy on the outside. It came with fresh(-ish) blueberries and strawberries, and a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. I asked for extra maple syrup, but only because I like to drown my pancakes in it...

I've been T8 Club Lounge yesterday for the T8 Club Lounge Champagne Brunch and i have to say that It was perfact!!!!

The T8 Club Lounge is T8's 2nd floor and yes, it's really sophisticated and comfortable... And Stepanie(the manager trainee) who served our table has fantastic servise attitude~ Thnx~

Onemore thing, if you want the meat cooked like medium, then you have to order it as medium rare... Bcause there plate is hot stone so, it is still being cooked on your table~

if you want the pictures of T8 Club Lounge, visit my blog i have some pictures of food from Champagne Brunch as well but this blog is not written by english, so~but see those pictures can't be a problome

Great food, it is really all about the fusion of different ingredients and savors to make your tastebuds go crazy. Great champagne served with the brunch, great service and cozy atmosphere upstairs. I highly recommend! Only remark for improvement: they should work on their cocktails.

The food was great, we particularly enjoyed the appetizers (the salmon and carpaccio) and the braised Wagyu Rib. T8 is in the same league as Mr and Mrs Bund and Institut Bocuse in term of food. Service is nice but more relaxed than those restaurants.

We really liked the decor, it's nice and cozy and I think it's perfect spot for a date or romantic dinner... They also have some kind of sofas which look really nice for coming over with a group of friends.

We will definitely recommend this place to our friends and will come again.

I went to T8 last Saturday to celebrate my birthday.

I really have to say, I never had such a great birthday dinner and dining experience. We arrived at the restaurant and we were warmly welcomed. We got ourselves a nice appetizer and wanted to have great wines that suited our courses. Nothing was too much trouble and the people are so friendly. Also a lot of respect for the chef, the open kitchen is great and very well organized. The general manager walks around and makes sure that nothing will go wrong. The staff is very helpful.

The dishes looked so nice and so creative. Our plates looked so good almost too appetizing to eat. Me and my wife we both had chosen for the steak. It looks like real art with the vegetables on the side. I can tell you, the chef prepared it so good, it was delicious!

The price combines with the quality is good in T8. You pay a high price, but the wines and food are amazing. In my opinion T8 have one of the best chefs in Shanghai, he is creative and its tasted nice!

If you wanna have a relax, chill, lounge night with a great dinner and excellent service T8 is the place to be. I will thank the staff, the chef and general manager for the fantastic birthday!

I just had dinner there and was so furious that I decided to sign up and write this review asap. Firstly, they were filming some sort of commercial right next to our table which was a problem by itself as they should have done it at a less busy time of the week, not 8pm Friday night. To make things worse, the camera crew pointed the spotlights they were using right at us but the staff seemed unconcerned at all. When we requested a change of table they shifted us to the lounge despite the fact that the restaurant was half empty.

The food was frankly horrible; we ordered three entrees, two steaks and one halibut. The fish was not properly filleted and my daughter actually choked on the bones while the beef was badly seasoned and rather tasteless. The deserts weren't much better, with the ice-cream sandwich tasting like a glob of white turd with all the culinary value of it. To be fair though, the souffle was very well made but this could not compensate for the rest of the meal.

Finally, the service was definitely the worst that I had ever experienced in this city. Despite all our complaints the general manager and head chef, both of which were present failed to show up while the server who took our order promptly disappeared after attempting to serve us desert when we were still eating our mains. When we called the restaurant to complain afterwards the general manager refused to answer the call and had a junior waiter reply us. All in all, this was an utterly horrible dining experience and I shall never revisit T8.

Had lunch here today, after I heard about their set lunches (118 RMB for 1 course, 168 for 2 courses, and 238 for 3 courses). Having heard so many good things about this restaurant, I had to come try. I was not disappointed, and this is probably going to be one of my top lunch spots in Shanghai from now on.

My appetizer was the watermelon with goat's cheese. It was one of the most interesting combinations I've heard of, and it was surprisingly pleasant. The goat cheese wasn't too strong and the slightly sweet watermelon complimented it very well. The resulting flavor was sweet, salty, and even a bit sour (from the raspberries). It was a fun dish, and fairly artfully presented as well. My main course was an Australian roasted lamb rump. The lamb was cooked perfectly, with a nice crunch and also enough seasoning. It was nicely cooked to medium, which meant it was juicy and not dry at all. The corn puree that went underneath the lamb was slightly under-seasoned in comparison to the lamb, but a nice alternative to mashed potato. However, I had a small qualm with the dish's dressing. I'm not sure what it was, but it was way too smokey and was something I found very distasteful, and it did not even go nicely with the lamb. I'm not a food expert by any means, but I think that sauce would be hard to stomach by most patrons who try this dish.

Dessert was probably one of the best souffles I had in Shanghai. I had an Orange Souffle served with mango sherbet. The mango sherbet was delicious (but then again I don't think I've had any bad ones before), but the orange souffle was outstanding and probably one of the best souffles I've had in Shanghai (along with Franck's souffle). It was sweet, tangy, and the texture was soft and smooth.

Service and atmosphere were both nice, but if I was back, it wouldn't be for them, it would be for the food. The value was fantastic, and I will definitely be back in the future.

Cant rate the food here. Came here for my birthday for their cigar, cognac, chocolate deal which was pretty great. Less than RMB200 for a well kept cuban and some fine cognac in a great setting. Definitely worth checking out

Came to T8 during Restaurant Week, and the place managed to impress with its artfully presented dishes and attentive service. The wagyu was presented like a painting, with the black stone plate as the canvas and the edamame, chanterelles, potato mousse, and the steak as the colors. Though it came out to be medium rather than the medium rare as we ordered, the wagyu was still lovely especially when paired with the intensely garlicky potato mousse. The marshmallow dessert was nicely toasted with beautiful burnt marks. Loved the flower petals and the coffee cake soil…but the coffee ice cream was already half melted as it was brought to my table - prompt service would've been nice.

Wow, I just read that this is supposed to be in Conde Nast's best 50?! They certainly charge for that, but the service was appalling. The waitress sprayed champage in my eye, another waitress tripped over it, and the champagne was warm. The food was really nothing special at all, some dishes I would even describe as just plain crap, despite the fancily-worded menu, and cost a bomb. Really, really amateur and unacceptable for that price. I wish I would have read these few reviews before going there. Do better T8!!

Awful service, 30 minutes to receive the water we ordered when being seated. Waiting another 20 minutes after being seated before anyone came over to ask for our orders or to give us the wine menu. AND this was a Sunday afternoon at 2 pm with only two other seated tables.

As for the food. Okay to Good, but nothing great. They have some very good ideas Kingfish Sashimi with Sorbet and Sous Vide Chicken Breast stuffed with truffles, but they suffer from poor execution.

Overall I am indifferent. If the service would have been better I might go back if someone invited me but not of my own accord.

I was at T8 last week. Here is my review. Unlike some other reviews, the service was really good. The servers were very helpful and attentive. The cocktails were great and the wine list was very nice. Now for the food. I originally went there to experience the set menu. After looking over the menu, I could not really find a starter or appetizer that was to my liking. So we did finally choose the tuna starter with prosciutto and caviar. It was good. And for the main course I had the same problem. We finally ordered chicken stuffed with truffles and the gnocchi. The chicken was good, but I need to be honest about the 'pan-fried' gnocchi. It was really disappointing. Average tasting, rather mushy and a VERY small portion. I was not overly impressed by the food at this restaurant and I don't think I will go back unless it is for drinks at the bar. But I will say, the restaurant is beautiful and the restrooms are immaculate.

I had an opposite experience with regards to service (in reference to zayuro's post). Staff was on point the entire night I was there and even brought over a small reading lamp when they saw we were having trouble reading a NYE flyer in the dark dining hall. Food was great (my favorite was the lamb pie), with the foie gras being the only disappointment. I'd go back in a heartbeat, although preferably on someone else's dime since this place wasn't cheap. I personally will never go again to this place. The ambience and the food is o.k. but very expensive if you take in account the poor service. The waiters are so distracted and unpolite. We spent more than 5000 RMB in this restaurant and we were close to fight with one of the waiters. We ordered a cuba libre and in a place like this the waiter should ask you which rum we would like to have. This was not case, the waiter just served what she wanted. We complained about the cocktail and she didnt want to the take it back. Moreover she said that they just have white Barcadi but it wasnt true. In the bar we saw other types of rum. At the time to get some dessert, we were obliged to look for the waiters. I recommend the manager to pay attention to the service. Instead of having a nice evening, you spent the whole night arguing with the waiters.

I have gone to T8 several times and each time there its been a different experience. The last time (Oct. 31) the food was great, it was perfectly prepared and fresh. The flavors were highlighted beautifully, and each dish had a unique flavor profile. It was a food-gasm. I think this happy surprise was because of the food we ordered, honestly in the past the food at T8 never tasted as nice. It was always just "over-rated" and not worth the hype. The caramelized salmon with ginger, noodles, parsley and roe was divine. And the black cod with truffles and truffle oil was just as tasty. The chocolate addiction platter had some great desserts - the thick chocolate cake and a frozen mouse, but had some misses. I wish the lava cake had more "lava" - there was no liquid! The liquid is my favorite bit! In the past, I have ordered meat dishes as well as several dishes I don't remember (which I guess doesn't say too much about them). They have tasted rather bland and mediocre at best, as if T8 let their reputation get to them and became so arrogant to let them slip. Also the service is rather dreadful. : ... there are no real vegetarian choices. Pictures at: http://blog.chrissy-and-joachim.com/2009/11/02/t8-review.aspx

Went there after work with a few friends. The ambiance was great, especially loved the open kitchen concept.

For the price, I think the food is just acceptable. For the price charged, I could have very high quality steak, but not here. In any case, overall experience is still enjoyable. The tuna starter is quite nice.

The food was okay, and the decor was nice (except for the ceiling, which looks kinda dreadful). I particularly enjoyed the dessert sampler, wonderful! Service was not bad either.

i think the place is definitely my top choice if a bit cash is plan to be spent..can not argue with the tuna starter and amazing dessert selections. some of the fusion dishes are hard for chinese food eaters...the service is comparatively speaking, fine, if my memory serves me correctly..of course never expect to get the same thing like thailand or indonesia while in shanghai...the wine list and occasional talk with GM makes it up ...

I went there on three occasions. The first time was wonderful (because the Chef and the manager were there) and the other two times were aweful!!! At dessert time, we were desperately looking for a waitress, and the one that came to our table told us that she was not assigned to serve our table (WOW!!!). She wouldn't even call the one who was supposed to serve us. Our one and only ice cream ball came (revolting) and thats when we wanted to see the Chef. The supervisor told us he had gone home as well as the manager (10 ish in the evening). We later saw the kitchen people drop a clean fork. She picked it up, swiped it and placed it in the forks' drawer. The Michelin Guide really needs to come to Shanghai to straighten the pretentious ones out! Never go to T8!

A very nice restaurant. The handcut pasta with salted pork was a bit too salty. But it is maybe the only disappointing dish on the menu.

Very good wine. The Prelude, a chardonnay from Margareta River of Western Australia and the cheapest on their wine list(RMB460/bottle, if i remember correctly), is just stunning. Really love it.
