This cafe has a genial atmosphere and an experimental interior that is stylish without being stuffy. A good stop for a casual glass of wine with friends, make sure you also try the chocolate fondant with homemade ice cream and the almost filo pastry-like leek tart. Language classes and a language corner are offered for Chinese students looking to improve their English.

Went to that place last saturday evening with my girlfriend. I wanted to try another restaurant and while browsing CW listing, I ended up on that one. Although I didn't have much expectation, I was terribly disapointed. The main courses were served cold, sent back to the kitchen. No real explaination as the restaurant was far from being crowdy. The "souris d'agneau", which I'm a big fan, was far from any average "souris d'agneau" you can find in France. Two small pieces lost in the corner of the plate (where the hell did they find so tiny pieces ? Do they know the size of a lamb leg ?), sided by two slices of green salad and coffee spoon of white beans. Everything was dry to the bones. And the garlic sauce was just a thickened white sauce garlic-flavored. A miserable dish. My friend had ordered the Poulard style chicken. The so-called Poulard chicken was just pieces of chicken boiled and covered by another thicken sauce. Only the tarte tatin was ok for the dessert.
Fortunately for me, my girlfriend knows for a fact what french food does taste like and she really likes it. She knows the difference between that ridiculous copy/paste industrial-like recipes and the original.
Oh, and to spice up that flavorless dinner: when asking about the wine list, we were told there is none. So you have to pickup off the shelf. So far, why not. But you do it blind, with no price anywhere...
So for sure, in the end, you don't feel uncomfortable with the amount of the bill: it won't blow your monthly restaurant budget. But if you bring some of your non-french friends to make them taste what french cuisine is all about, then I advise to go for another french restaurant (or supposed to be so) if you don't want to feel that sudden red on hot feeling on your face when looking at crappy and shameful dishes with your friends. Then you would feel very uncomfortable.

Found this little bistrot when I had business meeting in ciro's plaza. Even for lunch menu, there's a large selection. I ordered 3-course lunch set only costs RMB68, the food is not quite top notch but definitely worth the price.

Had my birthday party there last Saturday. I was told about their VIP deal when I called for reservation. There are two VIP memberships, rmb1000 prepayment for premium membership and rmb 2000 for elite membership. There is a credit reward equals to 10% of prepayment. I chose elite membership, so i got rmb200 credit and i got a complimentary bottle of house wine. It's really not too bad. And all my friends seemed to enjoy the food and wine;-)

I'm pretty new in shanghai and still exploring some nice restaurants here. my friend recommended me lingo bistrot if i have a crave for french food. last night i decided to give a try and i did have a pleasant dinner there. The taste is authentic and the price surprised me more (for a 3-course dinner set only costs rmb148). Definitely will go there again!

This is one of my favourite restaurants. The food is authentic, the price is reasonable and the owner is very friendly. I like their cheese fondue, it is served in a bread bowl with slices of meat and potato. Tasty! And they also have a wide selection of wine. how can you eat french food without wine:-)

Been last night to this place, thought i discovered a new place cause it is in a mall and never heard before but apparently not.... was quite crowded with locals and westerners. Was a good food experience, service ok, wine selection from all the world but mostly french (which is ok for me :-) I had a 3 courses set menu with snails, beef in blue cheese sauce with homemade mash potato and chocolate fondant, all was good but specially the meat. The set menu for only 118rmb!!!! my friend get the lingo cheese fondue and was quite impress by this dish concept to serve it in a bread ball with parma ham, looks and taste good. if i remember we paid with a bottle of french wine (only 100 rmb) 350rmb total!!!! this is what i use to pay only for the Chilean wine at other places... i definitely recommend this place for casual moment to share with friend, this is a real bistrot with to the ambiance but also bistrot good prices (need to check for how long!!!!!)

A good place to eat french kitchen with wine. I loved the fondue (and to answ to Astrid, I think that it is very creativ the way the Lingo do the fondue. The bread is all around the cheese so you just have to take it.. And I never ate any fondue (in my entire life) with a spoon….), and the chocolate fondant is just amazing. I have been only one time but I will go again to try the other dishes and drink french wines

Where else can you get fois gras at the start of the evening with a chilled white wine and finish off pouring your own drinks behind the bar while singing karaoke to a dazzling crowd of shanghai's finest. Sitting below what I can only describe as a crowd tanning device, do expect to enjoy the affordable food and cheap wine while having your dinner experience enlighten by the Maitre d’hôte ecstatic personality! Seriously though, the center table is the place to be. I've met dozens of person on this high table, all sharing and opening up to the sounds of corks being happily liberated from the constraints of their glass prison. Lingo is a gathering place. It's a place to meet after work, and have informal dinner with colleagues, friends and even customers. Many of which I’ve taken here have enjoyed the laid back atmosphere as opposed to other presumptuous "French" restaurant in town. Some of us have long longed for affordable home food. Lingo delivers, with that extra twist that make it almost feel like you are having dinner in your own living room. Yes, you would've guessed, i am a regular to this place. The only downturn is the location. A little like the Bounty Rhum bar, you have to know where it is. You need to Ze Connection of someone taking you there for you to go back. And there is a school... Dozens of girls, longing for a partner mastering (erm erm) the language of Shake-a-spear. There are also boys. Oh well! Ask the British, regulars as well who almost 3 times a night the table drinking the draft beer by pints until the 11pm last-orders final call, which effectively never happens in Lingo! Or the French couples bringing their newborn child for dinner, sleeping away, while waiting for the chocolate fondant to lovingly share while I come over and ask if they really do not need help in finishing their dessert.. (I am a chocoholic) Lingo doesn’t close Lingo food is decent Lingo prices are there Lingo punters are true Lingo style, be serious, don’t take yourself seriously LingoooooOOOOOoooooo!
Honestly, I was there 2 weeks ago and somehow was very disapointed in the service and their so called cheese fondue! How can you eat it without either a spoon or bread???? I was told that I did not understand the concept- well, back home(France) this is not the way you would serve it! I had an awful tarte tatin-uncooked pastry with 5 slices of so called apple served with a bad vanilla icecream. By the way, I might not be very smart but eating ice cream with a fork is somehow VERY DIFFICULT!!

Alas, not such a great experience here the other night. To be fair, with a bit over perhaps 20 people, the small venue was a bit overwhelmed by the number of customers. The owner (a very amenable man) was the only server on hand and the kitchen staff was struggling to keep up.
Now, this was all forgivable, and we certainly wouldn't have minded waiting for the food had it been worth the wait. Unfortunately, there was little to applaud. The foie gras, while tasty, consisted only of two thin slices, hardly a bang for your buck. The tuna pate we'd ordered was nothing more than canned tuna with chopped tomato on top.
Mains, while pricey, consisted of a portion of meat and a side of potatoes (mashed potatoes were lumpy, we didn't try the gratin). Again, we felt cheated by the price for such skimpy portions. Sadly, my friend's tuna fillet (a veritable brick of tune), had clearly been cooked while still partially frozen, rendering the outside excessively tough and the inside, while raw at the core, dry and flavorless. We didn't finish it.
The duck mains were tasty, however again came with minuscule side accompaniments. Friends deigned to order dessert, and while their fondant au chocolat was nice, the tart tartin was served raw (after a 20-minute wait) and had to be sent back to the kitchen.
We were told that a new chef is coming in next week. This may help to solve the debacle, but unless they're going to revamp the menu entirely, I'd say they should stick to small, simple lunchtime fare and focus on being a wine bar / cafe, which they're much better suited for.

Thanks guys for the kind reviews we turned 1 this week!

This place is really cool, good to relax and have a quite drink with friends also very friendly community that hang out here...

This Place is a go to place for sure in Shanghai great value and good atmosphere also the owners are very friendly...

The name of the place drops a hint of linguistics, and we found some books there. I found a bootleg copy of Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything was almost shattered to pieces. The environment kinda good. Service mediocre. Food, well, if we were Gordon Ramsays, these lasagna and spaghetti should have ended up in the kitchen.

New Eats | Café Hangout [HTML_REMOVED] Lingo’s décor is Japanese chic and the environment decidedly social, helped along by ¥100 bottles of wine and English classes to draw in locals.
The standout dish was an airy leek tart (¥30), a recipe lovingly handcrafted by managing director Lionel Baudoux’s mother. Unfortunately, the main courses suffered from inconsistency. While one of our tuna fillets (¥96) was lightly seared, the other was overcooked and lost the silky texture and raw, translucent core that makes ahi a delicacy. Likewise, the chicken poulard (¥105) had some pieces that tasted like rubber, though a velvety foie gras and truffle-enhanced sauce draped the morsels.
Fortunately, our desserts of chocolate fondant (¥30), a well of moist cake oozing with dark chocolate accompanied by homemade vanilla ice cream, and a buttery rustic apple tart (¥30), served upside-down tart tatin reignited our enthusiasm. Our advice: ask for mom’s help on the mains. Kellie Schmitt

Maybe things have changed. Went there on a Tuesday night Nov 15. I had mussel curry as appetizer, the mussel was very hard. My main course was baked duck leg which has no taste whatsoever, the mashed potato taste like coming directly from the box. The cream brulee made up for it. This is a good place for a drink and desert, the food here is disappointing.
