@jus76. I'm Narsfs on this- Jade is what we grownups call an adult space. I don't know where you got your sense of parental entitlement, but bringing your squalling larva to a fancy restaurant is the height of self-centered discourtesy. You sprouted the sprog, so deal with the consequences- that means either getting a baby sitter or learning to like eating at 'Family Friendly ' restaurants for the next 16+ years. My respect for Jade has just gone up.

@jus76
With the best will in the world...
Jade is an expensive and intimate high-class restaurant where fantastic food is served for people who appreciate great service along with the best food Shanghai has to offer.
When I'm paying upwards of 2000 RMB for a meal, I don't particularly want to be surrounded by a bunch of whining kids or their even more whiny parents who are complaining that the highchair is too high.
Haiku does an excellent line in "many peasant children running through the bar spoiling your meal" though in fairness, it's not just the kids that spoil the meal, but also the food, service and price.
So, in summary: you've got kids, that's wonderful and I'm happy for you. But the rest of the world is NOWHERE NEAR as excited about that fact as you are.

They do not accept kids in this restaurant. We were just told we cannot make a reservation for the Sunday brunch if we come with our 10 month old kid! Not acceptable!

Great view, intimate atmosphere and very attentive service. But although so many restaurants in Shanghai seem to get the hardware right, they eventually loose it on the food. Jade on 36 was no exception.
Bottom line is we've expected much more of this highly regarded place, but I'm sorry to say that the food was just bland and tasteless. May it be the the totally boring Foie Gras in a chinese style broth, or the unexciting Tasmanian Tenderloin or even the cheese cake which was just mushy, the presentation was all flawless, but god knows where they left the taste in all their pretty looking food!?
Anyhow, "Been there, done that bought the T-shirt...." just atmosphere and service is for sure not worth all that money!

AMAZINGGGG there is no better sunday brunch :) props to the creative and interactive kitchen, it's the one place i've been to in shanghai where i can walk into a kitchen and watch chefs work their magic. service is great, and it's definitely worth the (pricey) buffet

Although excellent, I still prefer the VUE brunch to Jade, both on the quality and presentation front. The only thing missing from VUE is the caviar, which Jade offers.

The food (Sunday Brunch) and the service were extraodinary. Free flow of Moet, plenty of caviar, delicious foie gras, big and flavorful lobster tails, a plethora of fine cheese to pick from, and more. The hot dishes were as excellent as the cold dishes, and you are given the opportunity to walk into the kitchen yourself to pick from a selection of very well prepared items. The presentation of the desserts was very cool and creative, together with bottles of wine and champagne on circular shelves.
The view at the restaurant was wonderful, as well as the service. I would appreciate it if each station was easier to find, especially near the end of brunch when i am well under the influence. The bloody mary was also a bit of a disappointment. It was missing one of the main ingredients, the celery stick! Instead, it came with a green plastic stick. For such a fine restaurant, I had higher expectations. And one last bit, there was no music, at all...
Overall, excellent food, excellent service. Everything was almost perfect. Definitely a brunch worth splurging 550 RMB on.

Thank`s at all Staff of Jade 36 for the fantastic Sunday i spend with my friends especially tx at Chef & Manager..great food and service with good value...!

Am just back again last night, ambiance and service is still top notch, food quality are wonderful and favorsome, would say is the number 1 French restaurant in Shanghai. Having been based in Guanzhou for the last few months, would say is great to be back and the staff are very attentive in every aspect. This time round, did manage to speak with the chef and am truly impress with his creativity and food quality. "A Gem in Shanghai", Bravo!!! Is what China really need, back to basic...and a showcase of "True Classic French Cuisine" (guess is totally forgotten)

With no shadow of a doubt the WORST restaurant experience in my entire life. We had a set 14 course meal. Each of the "courses" just consisted of one pretentious spoonful of tripe - not one of them tasty. So there was quite literally 14 mouthfuls of unsatisfying food. Our bill came to 3200RMB for two people - and we left still hungry. This was supposed to be a really special "once a year" experience, but turned in a "once in a lifetime" disappointment. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE!!!

a great view and i go there for that. i tried the food once and wasnt overly impressed. definitely hits the wallet hard. maybe its just french food is just blah...its all presentation.

Was there last night, great ambience, great service and I personally feel that the food are great, does has a touch of traditional yet reminds me of "Nouvelle Cuisine", great recommendations by the service staff. Would say is the best valued meals I had in China or Asia. For such quality in Europe, would have cost many times more. Prices are very reasonable for the quality offered I must admit. Am already thinking of when I would make my next visit.

Still a great view however was not impressed with the new menu, both in offerings as well as quality. Expensive and really not worth the price. With the previous chef, at least you pay for the innovative dishes if nothing else, the new menu offerings certainly did not warrant the high price tag. Been there, done that. No need to go back.
Great view, service and almost-great food. The Jade of jade is their signature menu and there are 3 items that are a must-try; the foie gras, prawn and beef rib. This is a place definitely to bring a nice date to impress, as the experience is quite unique.
We just re-visited the place after more than a year and the food is still consistent. It was somewhat less impressive than the 1st time. Maybe they should have invented other new dishes?

This restaurant is receiving yet another award this January from Food&Wine China for being one of the top 50 hotel restaurants in China. The high-end fusion fare found here is highly praised. Try out Chef Paul Pairet's foie gras opera which our very own The Dish columnist, Crystyl Mo, describes as "a multi-layered chocolate, passionfruit and goose liver 'cake.'"

Just been to Jade on 36 for the Sunday Brunch. Having read that it's the best in Shanghai, we had to try it. We arrived a few minutes early and were given a glass of champagne to wait with. When we were shown in, the waiter, Charles, showed us around each of the stations and into the kitchen to meet the chef. We started with king crab legs, caviar, smoked tuna, sashimi, Iberico ham, fat scallops, oysters and several glasses of Moet. The service was excellent and our glasses were refilled as they were emptied. The waiters were well-trained and removed plates without the need to be asked. We hit the kitchen for the mian courses and once again were greeted by the chef who introduced the dishes. Between us we managed lobster (twice) with garlic butter, coq au vin, rack of lamb, sea bass, truffle risotto and veal shank. Each dish was stunning and we even added a few slices of sirloin from the station in the restaurant. On to dessert and we chose 9 of the 10 on offer, with some fabulous ice cream, added to a selection of fine French cheese and some vintage Port. 3 hours of pure indulgence. Excellent service, great food and even a woman playing a harp! The views are great for tourists, but we live with a similar view, so nothing too spectacular here. Certainly the best brunch I've had and some of the best food in Shanghai. Non-stop champagne, attentive service - we'll be back. 1600 RMB for two is well worth the money.
