Though the frozen yogurt here is pitched as a healthy alternative to ice cream, it's no less tempting than its bigger-calorie brother. Try out a dessert crepe (or waffle) or drop in every once in a while to see what the flavor of the week is.
- Contributor Description
Anna Banana is Shanghai's very own homegrown frozen yogurt brand.
Unlike the competition, we make our froyo with real yogurt, so although it might taste and feel different from what you're used to back home, give it a try! It's much better for you :)
We also have fresh homemade waffles, pancakes, and brownies if you're in the mood for something more filling. Although we're not a cafe, we have it on good authority that our coffee is pretty delicious too!
Please come work on our free WiFi, or spend an afternoon playing Monopoly or Uno with your friends and family.
We are at 88 Henan Road, near Guangdong Road, at the North West corner of the Bund Center. (河南路88号,近广东路,外滩中心)

I tried the place near Jing'An Si station and hey, it's not bad. Good selection of toppings.

This place is a great place to take the kids for a special treat. It is quick, easy and very yummy :)

Dekcah - thanks for your review! Bali Bistro - we love your restaurant too!
Cityweekend - thanks for having us in your top 3 desserts in Shanghai this week!

Fantastic place to get a yogurt.... everything is fresh and their granola's are fantastic!
Anna Frozen Yogurt with Brownise , fresh Manggo and Caramel sauce is the best combination ---- must try ----

Hi Miss Beverly,
Thanks for going out of your way to come review our place! We're hoping to open a second location where it's easier for everyone to get to.
We'll definitely work on the portion issues! For the creaminess issue, we will see what we can do to make it creamier without compromising on the calories and health benefits.
Thanks again!

Anna Banana Frozen Yoghurt and Smoothies is a new-ish joint that opened recently - oddly, in the middle of winter! Chris and I still trooped there anyway, to see what it was all about. It's unfortunately a bit out of the way for us - not walking distance and not in the middle of a main shopping district. If only they were right in the thick of things, we'd go much more frequently!
The frozen yoghurt with strawberries and kiwi fruit came in an adorable cup, with the fruit looking so bright on top. It's actually expensive considering you have to add money to get fruit on top, and you only get a few teeny tiny pieces (because the cup is small anyway and it'll overflow). We enjoy the sweet fruit and slight tang of the frozen yoghurt. The frozen yoghurt itself isn't very creamy and slightly on the icy side - because it's low fat. I'd prefer a HIGH fat option with maximum creaminess :)
I'm pretty satisfied with my fresh waffle with frozen yoghurt and cheerios. The waffle is freshly made (excellent!) and has a nice flavour. I prefer the thick sort of waffles that are crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, but that's just personal taste. It needs about twice the amount of yoghurt though, the portion is too stingy. I also asked for some maple syrup (free) but it is a TINY drizzle - they should just provide the whole bottle for you to pour on at the table.
Sadly, the enticing-sounding teas they have on the menu is merely a Dilmah tea bag :( For the price, I was expecting tea leaves brewed in a kettle. Overall, the food is good, the concept is adorable, and the staff are excellent. However, the tiny-sized portions (it honestly seemed like the staff was carefully counting out items) give a stingy vibe to the place. Be twice as generous with your portions/toppings and I'm sure customers will thoroughly enjoy themselves :)

Walked by this place after one of those infamous Westin champagne brunches the other day. There were flowers outside, meaning the place was newly opened, and My girl and I made a note to come back, since at this point we were full to the point of barfing, and I was coincidentally also pretty sh*tfaced.
Came back and glad that we did. Girlfriend loved the chocolate flavor (which was a little rich and bitter for me, but it's like catnip to girls). I quite liked the original flavor, which was light and not too sweet, and had hints of fruit. I had this with crepes, caramel sauce and some fruit and cereal. The crepes were comparable to La Creperie's works of art, although the portions were slightly smaller and the prices a lot cheaper. They also make them fresh, as was evidenced by the aromas that filled the room shortly before I got my crepes. The yogurt itself was a little icy, but the staff told me it's because there's very little fat to give the necessary creaminess.
Some suggestions: delivery and coffee.
Will be back often, I'm sure.

I was staying at the W-In and just so happened to stop by. Not sure if if it was officially open but the yogurt and toppings were great. American standard unlike most Yogurt places in SH. The price is decent. I would recommend their set Waffle w/ yogurt. They have home made caramel you can try for FREEEEEEE.

zammo, thank you :) Please come by and have a frozen yogurt on us, just ask the staff to look for the owners, we should be here everyday for the next couple of weeks.
narsfweasels, looks like you're still not convinced that shanghizzle's review was written without our intent/knowledge. I will henceforth insist that all our friends and family who don't have at least 100 posts on City Weekend to refrain from posting any reviews, unless they are bad ones. :)
In the meantime, my invitation for you to try our product is still open, so please come by and have a yogurt on us in exchange for your honest review. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Just look for the owners, as mentioned above.

Zammo, if I wanted to be lied to and treated like the moron that I am, I'd read That's Shanghai, or if I was in a really self-destructive mood, the Shanghai Daily. I don't want to be lied to here.
Anna Banana has every right to promote their business, I'm assuming they're Expats and more power to them for making the effort. It's an everybody-eat-dog marketplace and a tough world to survive in.
However, I'd rather be given credit for the intelligence that I don't possess than have everybody hold their customers in contempt and still expect them to come there to spend money.
And yes, the name is pretty cool, it has to be said. I hope the food is cool too. Warm yoghurt can give you a tummy ache.

Narf Weasels,
Chill out.
Anna Banana, your restaurant has a cool name.

Nasfweasels, I asked some of the friends and family that we invited to our soft opening last Saturday and found that one of them did indeed write the review. So yes, it is biased, but nevertheless, it wasn't anyone working for or with us.
Unfortunately we don't deliver right now, since we don't want our waffles getting soggy or our frozen yogurt melting on the way, but please come by if you're ever in the area so you can write your own unbiased review. :)

Someone get me a shovel, this bull won't stop! Help!
Anna Banana, please, just don't, yeah? If this person is not in some vague way associated, linked, close, near, friendly with or somehow attachable to your business in some sense, then I will eat a pair of my underpants in a pie.
You have to provide free three frozen yoghurt toppings of my choice, and cook the pie yourselves, however.
On another note, do you deliver? Not underpants pies, yoghurt.

Shanghizzle, thanks for the comments :)
Narsfweasels, yours is a valid point, as I know there are many businesses that "review" their own business with glowing comments, and Shanghizzle's comments look suspicious, especially because it's his/her first post. However, for what little it's worth, I promise he/she is not associated with us.
I invite you to try our product and see for yourself. In the meantime, maybe someone at City Weekend can somehow verify the authenticity of the comment, maybe though IP address checks or however else?

Hi Shanghizzle/Annabanana! I hope your frozen yoghurts are better than your attempts at marketing!
See Benson and Citta Espresso for other establishments that are on the "Holding Honest Customers in Contempt With Their Bullsh^t Marketing Lies" List for further reference and good luck :)

Love it love it love it!
A much healthier alternative to ice cream, Anna Banana has great tasting frozen yogurt in original flavor and flavor of the week. This week's flavor is Banana Mango... yumm!
Not only is Anna Banana's yogurt lower in calories, but has vitamins from the blended fruit and fresh fruit toppings.
I love the varied toppings available. My favorites are mochi (Japanese glutinous rice), fresh strawberries, mangoes and home-made caramel sauce.
The atmosphere is relaxed and cosy. There are boardgames available and chill music in the background. I'd definitely come back to hang out here with my friends.

So-So Yogurt
This new dessert joint serves up swirls of frozen low-fat yogurt made fresh daily. The yogurt itself lacks tartness and creaminess, but the 56 different toppings and variety of brunch-esque accompaniments make up for the yogurt’s blandness. We created our own tropical smoothie with their original yogurt, peaches, mangoes, bananas and coconut flakes (¥31). The combination sent our taste buds to Thailand every time we took a sip. The French toast (¥25), fresh off the griddle and topped with froyo, maple syrup and ground cinnamon, is the perfect warm, wintery treat. Service is rather slow, considering their business is yogurt, so come relax in the colorful, comfortable environment instead of grabbing your goods to go.
