This is a fantastic place to bring the out-of-towners. It has a huge menu and the food is cooked to perfection. They have the crispiest crispy skin chicken I have ever seen! The kitchen staff here obviously know what they're doing...
My favourite place for a decent meal in town. The super big menu has all the classic Cantonese dishes you would expect, and also some not so classic western world chinese dishes like sweet and sour pork and lemon chicken. Everything I have ever ordered has been delious. I'm just going to list my favourite 5 dishes but order what ever because they will not dissapoint. 1.The loosely sealed dumplings in chilli oil 2.Crispy pork loin 3. Pork with chives cooked in XO sauce (not on the main menu but in the hard plastic display case on your table) 4.Whitebait, impressive bacause if you look closely you can see that a chef has removed the tiny spines from these tasty tempured fish (make sure you ask for a lemon and salt (if your not drinking tequilla) to season them because they seem to miss this step in the kitchen) 5.Green beans with olives To drink - if numbers suffice we head to the spirits page because at only 220y for a bottle of gin or vodka, why beat around the bush and pay 400y for a bottle of "its drinkable" chinese wine. What sets this palce above the rest is the super efficient and freindly- without being over the top service. I can definitly understand why they won at this years City weekend's award night.
even though it is crowded everytime i go. I enjoy the food a lot... never get disappointed...

I always love Crystal Jade, it's been on my top 3 dim sum place for years. But recently I made a reservation for 6:30pm and they took it. I arrived with my 2 other friends. The receptionist told me that there is some emergency problems in the kitchen and they cannot have us eating there. I was very upset. The restaurant never called us to cancel the reservation. So we went to Ding Tai Feng. I dont know if there is any manager in Crytal Jade to handle customer service. I can understand that emergency problems happens from time to time in a restaurant but the least you can do is to call and to inform the customers.

this is one of the best dim sum places in shanghai. a bit pricy but sometimes you gotta shell out some dough to get the good stuff. but please keep in mind, this cannot compete to those places in HK, but its not that far behind.
Definitely quality meats, excellent handmade noodles, desserts, soups. Just some inconsistency with a few favourite dishes from time to time.

Being Singaporean Cantonese (and that means being extremely picky when it comes to good chinese cuisine), THIS is the holy grail for all discerning lovers of chinese food.
The soup is the BEST in town and for especially on days when you feel a cold coming on, pop over to Crystal Jade, order any of the nutritious soups on the menu and you'll be raring to go the next day. I promise :)

Being Cantonese, I love dim sum! I haven't had a chance to have their dim sum yet but I've had dinner here before and it was fantastic.

You'll be hard pressed to find better dim sum in Shanghai. I always head to the one in the basement of HK New World Plaza on Huaihai lu, never crowded there (ever). I agree that the la-mian could be better (too soft, might contain egg as it's a little rich) but havn't tried the S'pore version. The one with red wine braised oxtail is tasty.
Overall quite good Canto dim sum; cheung fan, har gow, wu gok, all the standards you love, and the congee is very good, with quite a few choices. Also a page of Shanghai-style dim sum; xiao long bao, sheng jian man tou, and those flaky radish pastries that always scald my mouth.
The one thing I find inexcusable is the use of boiled Shanghai tapwater for the tea; if I want to suck on mud I'll do so on my own time and at my own expense, and for the prices they're charging come on. An egregious oversight on the managements part, don't know if the water is the same in the other CJs in Shanghai.
This is the benchmark place to go for dim sum and hong kong-styled cantonese food. The la-mian isn't as good as their stores in Singapore. For lunch, the prawn rice soup is excellent though it looks like a lobster in the picture... Dinner is also excellent and the service is always attentive. The problem is the popularity of the place and getting a table isn't easy. The price is reasonable.

good food and friendly service, a rare combination in SH...
It provideds Dim sum more like Shanghai style than Cantonese, however, taste good.

the best dim sum you can get in Shanghai

probably the most authentic cantonese restaurant in SH (at least out of all the ones I've tried so far)! First time an "insider" took me there and introduced me to their dandanmian (rmb35, GREAT VALUE), it was heavenly! the best part besides the flavour is the fact that we divided the bowl into two bowls and still fed us well! Another favourite is the luobuosubing, yum yum! The staff is friendly and attentive which is always a pleasant surprise in China. All in all Crystal Jade is a restaurant worth trying, and a place which will definitely get you going back for more.
