This green coffee shop brings eco-consciousness to the former French Concession. Treat yourself to some organic coffee at this earthy cafe and kick back and relax in their hammocks or cushy armchairs. They've got organic food to go along with all the usual coffee options.
- Contributor Description
This is an eco-friendly restaurant/cafe/bar located in the heart of downtown Shanghai but carefully tucked away from the city's traffic and noise. As a part of the newly constructed Jia Shan Market, Melange Oasis is an ideal place to relax with family or friends, have a cup of organic coffee and taste the restaurant’s specialities such as home-made hummus with organic vegetables or chicken cous cous. This new spot has a strong environmental concept with its compressed bambolo interior and solar heating panel. It is the perfect place to meet new people who are environmental-concious and enjoy an afternoon in the company of good food and good vibe.

I have a very good memories of this cosy place where the location and the food is very good! Saturday and Sunday brunch is a good time to go there and, during springtime, is a perfect way to profit of the courtyard that is very quite and nice! the coffee is excellent and the tiramisu is fantastic!

I love their location - very secluded, private - a place where you'd feel it's a great find in the middle of the city. Service was alright, nothing exceptional, but no major issues. Food was good with a healthy menu and selection. I had a mushroom soup and salmon/cream pasta. The only issue prohibiting this restaurant from becoming 5-stars is how slow their food comes out. I waited what must have been 30-40 minutes for my soup and the pasta came before I finished the soup, so the pasta was getting cold by the time I'm done with my first course and I felt like I had to rush through my soup. It would be truly great if they can get that sorted.

Eco-Friendly Meals | Reviewed in November 2010[HTML_REMOVED] Set against the courtyard of the eco-friendly Jiashan Market, the floor, bar, tables and chairs at Melange Oasis are made from compressed bamboo. The petite menu focuses on homemade, organic items.
On the cold, rainy day we went in, our mouths watered for something hot, so we started with the gnocchi (RMB65). Though its tomato sauce was too sweet and needed salt, the little lumps of pasta were tender and tasted pleasantly of Parmesan. The falafel dish (RMB48) is four big, baked balls with a crispy outer crust that gives way to a warm, flavorful inside that’s flecked with sunflower seeds and paired perfectly with tzatziki sauce and a skimpy offering of lightly toasted pita slices.
The marinated vegetable plate (RMB45) was a hit though, with flavorful but not overly oily slices of zucchini, artichoke, red peppers and eggplant. We washed it all down with a sharp homemade ginger ale (RMB30) and rounded out the meal with a hunk of banana bread (RMB30) that features big slices of banana and a generous dollop of sugarless whipped cream. You may not come for the food, but you’ll stay for the imported mags (including GQ, Marie Claire, and Vogue), enormous floor pillows, free Wi-Fi and the cozy hammocks.[HTML_REMOVED]
