Contributor Description

On your next visit to the Media Markt Electronics Superstore, be sure to check out the newly opened Media Markt Café. Located on the 5th floor of the superstore, this spacious and modern dining area offers a great view of Huaihai Lu to go with tasty but affordable foods and drinks. The price of a lunch special runs between 15 and 25RMB for a sandwich and endless soft drink. You can also enjoy a wide selection of Western and Chinese-style dishes, including a number of special German inspired foods, such as sausage and sauerkraut. An assortment of paninis, pizzas, and sandwiches makes this a great place to stop for a tasty bite while you’re shopping in the electronics store itself. All sandwiches are prepared daily by on site chefs using the freshest ingredients.

The Media Markt Café also offers a range of coffees, juices, and deserts, including specialty ice creams and German-style cakes. Whether you’re looking to grab some lunch in the middle of a busy work day, or enjoy a culinary treat with friends, Media Markt Café is a must-try for any food enthusiast.

Surprisingly, the food here is better in both taste and value than what you get at Starbucks and other coffee chains around town. We tried two panini–the tuna melt with tomato, and the mozzarella and tomato with pesto (both RMB18). They are solid, excellent value and sided with zesty house salads. The ziti pasta with mushrooms and bacon in a light cream sauce (RMB28) is hearty and not overly sauced, and, although the personal-size pepperoni pizza (RMB28) is too doughy, it’s topped with ample pepperoni and is more appetizing than the slightly cheaper Saizeriya pies. The Cajun chicken wrap (RMB22) lacks the promised spice but, in general, this quick spot delivers at the right price.[HTML_REMOVED] [HTML_REMOVED]Reviewed in January, 2011.[HTML_REMOVED][HTML_REMOVED] [HTML_REMOVED]Our rating: 3.5/5[HTML_REMOVED]

I have to laugh at the review below. I also had the terrible misfortune of ordering that vanilla soy drink. UGH!!!! Pure chemicals. But sawdust would be another word for it. However, I have to defend their food. I thought their vegetarian lasagne was pretty good.

Absolutely appalling food. Tried the 20 kuai lunch set--a sausage of some kind wrapped in some baked bready crust. Borderline disgusting. The sausage felt like it was stuffed with sawdust. You get a drink with that, so I tried the vanilla soy beverage. That really was filled with sawdust with some vanilla flavoring mixed in. Good view of centrat Shanghai from the cafe and of course wifi, but food is disgusting.

The 15rmb lunch is a great deal. The egg salad sandwich was good, even though it had been refrigerated. The warm tomato, mozzarella, and pesto panini was really tasty. The cafe is a great place to study-- pretty empty during the week, nice views of the street, free wifi. However, the demo Bose stereo system that was blasting some action movie next to the cafe was a bit distracting-- during climatic scenes, it felt like a little earthquake...

Food is great, its a counter service you order and pay at the counter you get a number and in less than 5 minutes you get your food.

i saw that they have also Hot dishes such as pasta's, pizza's and some chinese dishes for less than 35RMb! as this will be my new spot I will try their other dishes and post them here!
