- Contributor Description:
Cocks in frocks, Chinese style. Three hours of all the stars in Shanghai's transvestite world, including Baixue, Jiaojiao, Huofenghuang (a 60 year old grandfather ! ), plus the organizer, Minmin, all camping it up. Lots of glitz, wigs, applied eyelashes, pancake make-up, garish big dresses, false breasts, and falsetto singing. This is an extended version of the Lailai Dancehall people's monthly drag show, this time at a proper theater: the Railway Cultural Palace (164 Wangjiazhai Lu, near Xizang Bei Lu and Qiujiang Rd). Drag queen Gaga.
Cost: 20 yuan.
According to LGBeaT columnist Zhao Xing, "To both Minmin and Mr. Zhang, drag is a serious profession. While Minmin is openly gay, Mr. Zhang is married. “I have grandkids,” he says smiling. “Am I gay? I am, but I am also not. Well, I guess I do have such a hobby.” His wife knows he’s a drag queen, but she doesn’t know he’s gay. Being gay as a hobby while wearing drag as a profession, the Lailai dancing queens are a different generation of Shanghai’s homos. They dance, they jive and they have the time of their lives."
