Located 3 hours outside of Shanghai, Tianmu Lake is famous for fish, tea, home-produced raw-silk and rich cultural sites. Near the border of mountainous Anhui it has picturesque rolling farmland and green villages as far as the eye can see. In the Spring, the most remarkable thing about the lake is the green tea. The leaves for making the finest green tea in “Jiangnan” have to be picked during a certain period, between “Pure Brightness” (Qing Ming, in mid-March) and “Grain Rain” (Gu Yu, in mid-May). After that time, the higher temperatures bring more bitter teas. The area around the lake is a major production base for top quality green tea in China and also the venue for the Liyang Tea Festival. The festival is held late-April, when the early batches of the year’s tea leaves have been processed into fine green tea.
Route Description:
This is a paradise for those who want a nice long cruise. You can get on your bike and sail across the smooth rolling hills, forests, fields, and farms of this rural wonder. We will cover a lot of ground, except for a few short excursions on footpaths through the tea, we will ride exclusively on single lane roads that wind through the villages - dotting the valley. A highlight is a reservoir, near the end of the ride, where we can take a breather and snap some memories.
Price: RMB 1350 per person
