We arrived here one morning with visions of hot, heaping bowls of Zhejiang-style seafood noodles, but the reality is a tiny, messy restaurant. To our “I thought you were open 45 minutes ago?” the waitress responded, “Of course we are not ready, it’s just me this morning scrubbing and wiping, what do you expect?” We ordered off a board of offerings ranging from basic RMB20 noodles to RMB88 abalone noodles, settling on the two house specialties, seafood and pork liver and pork intestines noodles as well as the huangyu rice cake in soup (all RMB36). Our waitress took our order, then cleaned a dirty mop in the sink with her bare hands. We persuaded her to wash them before serving our food. The huangyu noodles are mid-range. There’s a whole fried fish (bones and all) swimming in a faintly fishy cabbage broth. The pork intestines noodles are tastier, with a hint of five spice and scallions swimming in a rich soy soup. As we ate, the waitress treated her coworkers to a litany of reasons why her job sucks. After 30 minutes, we learned that our order was not taken. “And you couldn’t order that anyway, we don’t have the seafood delivery in yet,” she dismissed. This at a place called Seafood Noodle. The noodles are good, but not great–if you do try it we suggest you take your order to go.
