Nestled in Gubei's Pearl City, La Cocina provides an intimate, laidback setting for fuss-free meals out with friends. Simple white and brown checkered decor lends a European atmosphere to this petite-sized eatery. A small staff, headed by a considerate, English-speaking manager, serves up light tapas (￥12-25), soup and main courses (￥30-150). Calderetadecordero Lamb, Musakhkahan Chicken Wraps and many other specialties populate the menu, yet despite the fancy names and helpful comments from the chef, some of the dishes' flavors ultimately lack character. Nonetheless, try the tasty tortilla Espaniola Omelet (￥12) and garlic-flavored Spaghetti Pomodoro (￥40). Though La Cocina falls a bit short of its name, which means 'the kitchen', its attractive prices and comfortable surroundings make for an affordable night out.
