Heatwolves Celebrates Love Bang's One Year Anniversary this Saturday

Heatwolves, the man behind Love Bang, crashes through musical barriers by mixing dubstep with soul, punk and hip-hop. Love Bang celebrates its one year anniversary at Dada this Saturday, so we caught up with the man behind the mask to find out more.

You run two nights in town, right?
I have Love Bang and Beat Buffet. Love Bang is a dubstep party and Beat Buffet is hip-hop and music with a lot of bass. I do each once a month.

Who are the residents?
I’m the resident but I’ve always got a guest. Before, I’ve had Drunk Monk, Blaze, Stephen Lorenz and this month it’s Ceezy, who is one of the best producers in town right now.

What sort of crowd comes down?
It’s always mixed. Sometimes it’s a real get-hype crowd. Or sometimes it’s people who come out to see dubstep and hear some live tunes who really get into the vibe.

We caught your set at Midi. It was about 40 percent ’60s tracks.
Yeah, I had to drop some Lou Reed.

So how does that fit in with the dubstep?
I’ve got an hour to show people music that I really like and appreciate. It’s an outdoor party and one of the worst things is to just have sh*tty club house music for an outdoor party.

And is that more what you do at your other night?
Yeah, Beat Buffet is more about hip-hop. It’s like a big house party. That’s the vibe.
