Tell Us Your Favorite Dessert and WIN a Dinner for Two AND DESSERT at Otto
No one can deny the incredible power and pull that the sweet tooth has. In fact, sometimes it's strong enough to override our better judgment. How many times have you caught yourself saying, "No, no, I can't, I really -- well, alright, just one bite!" and then eaten the whole dish? Fear not, your sacrifice has not been in vain.
For an upcoming issue, we're compiling a list of Shanghai's best desserts and we want to know what YOUR favorites are.
Tell us what the most mind-blowing dessert you've in Shanghai had and why it's so incredible--the rich chocolate mousse, the crispy caramel coated walnuts, the irresistible strawberry coolies--and you can win dinner for two AND dessert at Otto. We'd recommend the tiramisu--its light layers, subtle hint of coffee, chocolate shavings and touch of raspberry zing will tempt you to order another.
Submit your favorites by posting a comment below. Contest ends Monday, Oct. 13.

With its spongy layers saturated with sweet liquor and its creamy mascarpone fillings, my most favorite dessert would have to be the one and only tiramisu (which, by the way, can be obtained at Otto ;)

Folks in Taiwan know how to do desserts. Charmant's frozen peanut smoothies always hit the spot. Bring your own Hershey's syrup!

Best dessert ever? Now that's a hard one, do I go for chocolate? What about fruit? How about both?! I had a near prefect dessert called a "banana boat" on a beach in the States. Basically, you take a banana, slice it down the middle (keep the peel on), put chocolate chips and little marshmallows in the middle and wrap it all up with foil. Slowly cook it until its all melty and gooey over hot coals on a beach and enjoy! Yumm! Simple, delicious, and fun. What more could you ask for in a dessert?
Where can I get that in SH?
Anadolu does a dessert that is hard to describe but well worth a try. At first glance they are similar to donut holes, but they have a firmer exterior and are quite light/airy on the inside.
You get a plateful, which is more than enough for two. They have numerous ridges running along the outside, which adds some nice texture and catches the drizzled honey that is poured over them.
It's a pretty straightforward dessert, but the sweeteness of the honey and the texture of the donut/pastry is very nice.
I don't know the name but there is a picture of it on the menu. Chase it with a glass of Lion's Milk if you're feeling especially brave.
This is a great survey of Shanghai's best as I'm always in search of the perfect cup of coffee to go with an amazing, life-affirming dessert.
Going down memory lane, I remember that a few years ago La Villa Rouge used to have a young Japanese pastry chef who made small portions of ice-cream for the restaurant in a tiny ice cream maker from Japan. She also made this funny version of tiramisu.
Once I had the vanilla ice cream and it was like full-blown flavour bursting in my mouth. Vanilla X infinity.
It's hard to describe because probably everyone has had vanilla ice cream before, but one spoonful of this handmade ice cream was like tasting it with a new set of taste buds or vanilla ice cream from a different planet.
Her tiramisu was simple but with a little twist of an individually carmelized top. I've made my own tiramisu from scratch (whipping egg white by hand), so I set a rather high standard of what it should taste like - fresh and pillowy without being soggy, and the perfect sharp bite of coffee contrast to the creamy flavour. Well, honestly that tiramisu was better than any Italian restaurant in Shanghai. Certainly it was an outstanding take on a menu classic.
Sorry I don't remember the pastry chef's name so I could pay proper homage to her now.
"Life is short, eat dessert first"

Anything with mango, fresh and do not override the aroma of mango itself.

My favorite dessert?? Hard to decide but, as chocoholic as I am, I keep on with Creme Brulee au Chocolat that its a tasty custard with melted chocolate in a little ramakin sprinkled with brown sugar which is blow torched and when goes hard is gorgeous!!!. If you need to experience one of the best things in life, try this one.
I love to eat chocolate souffle, and gelato ice cream. Just imagine the smooth chocolate flavour migling around in your mouth. YUMM. And Durian.. Not everyone's cup of tea, but coming from North Sumatra, we have some of the best durian in the country. And combine durian and ice cream together, that's another fave. I heard that the new gelato shop Le Creme at Shaanxi Lu and Yongjia Lu will have a durian flavour gelato soon. It's near my home and I will definitely go to check it out

My favourite dessert in Shanghai.. Of course it is my shanghainese bf! What can be more sweet and mind-blowing then he? And listen to me beautiful glz, that city still have some more! Now your increadible dessert is ready)

my favorite is banana tart with vanilla ice cream. I learned how to make it at the Grand Hyatt.

Cheesecake from Grand Hyatt Bakery.
Homemade chocolate brownies with mashmallows from the photographer Grant-Oh Buchwald - orgasm for the palate is guaranteed!

Thanks for your suggestion fatcow, that sounds like a very interesting dessert and it's one that we weren't familiar with before! For introducing us to a new and unique dessert, we'd like to send you for a dinner for two to Otto. Congrats!

My hands-down fave dessert is yangzhiganlu (杨枝甘露). It;s served all over town at places like Honey Moon and Kowloon ice House. It's basically chunks of mango in a soup of grapefruit flesh and sago. YUM!
