City Weekend says

This Indian eatery has made a name for itself in Beijing, serving up an authentic menu of authentic flavors in a colorful, Bollywood-themed décor and all at low prices. The massive menu is filled with delectable treats, like the addictive lamb and spinach curry and tasty stuffed naans.

I like Ganges because they do a lot of small things right. Service is excellent. The restaurant is modern and comfortable without losing its Indian-ness. Their food is authentic and it comes out of the kitchen quickly (but not too quickly b/c that would be bad). Wait staff are still attentive after my order has been fulfilled – they are looking for signs thru out my meal. The menu is expansive enough to cover anything I can possibly request. And the price is right. That’s a lot of little things that add up to a great dining experience.

Ganges was excellent! I had just finished doing some volunteer English teaching with a friend near the outskirts of Beijing. It was a long and tiring Saturday morning and I was pretty hungry. My friend suggested we visit Ganges for lunch. She was a vegetarian and having heard of a good Indian restaurant nearby the Wudaokou area, she was ecstatic about giving it a try. Upon entering the restaurant interior, we were warmly greeted by the service staff and the owner. And with the fragrant Indian spices permeating the air along with Bollywood movies playing softly in the background, who else wouldn’t be enamored with this?

I love all kinds of different cuisines and Indian food is no exception. Introduced by an Indian friend and an Indian restaurant that used to be located right next to my old apartment, I have really grown to appreciate this kind of cuisine. Although I am not a vegetarian, I have always admired how Indian cuisine seems to really create imaginative and flavorful vegetable dishes without the use of meat. So I decided to order a vegetable main dish, which I believe was the Aloo Mutter (honestly, it’s been about a year, so I can’t quite remember the dish but I think based on the description it’s probably right...), my friend also ordered another vegetarian dish and to top it all off, we ordered a plate of vegetable samosas and naan.

It was all delicious and we were stuffed full of vegetable goodness before leaving. True, it's on the pricier side of things but for the authentic Indian food and pleasant atmosphere, it's a good place to treat yourself when you have a craving for Indian food.

Their Wudaoko location is cozy and the food is excellent. The prices are high for the average Wudaoko visitor, but it is really worth it as I have yet to find Indian food of equal quality anywhere in Beijing. I highly recommend the Vindaloo!

Nice food indeed. Order a Chicken Bhuna and a vegetable curry with Naan bread and a mango lassi. Although very tasty, the curries had too much cream for my liking and were hardly spicy at all. It reminded me of Indian restaurants in France where the food has been adapted for the French love of creamy sauces. I am used to curries in England where we love spicy and like to hold back on the cream! (Amusingly although the Indian waiter/owner? spoke perfect English to me most of the time, when I told him that the curries had more cream than I was used to, he decided that he could not understand! - selective hearing?) Prices up to English levels, so overall I am rating it against English quality and just give it 3 stars.

Lunch here on a windy winter day was a delight even if this small branch did not offer the lunch buffet. We were impressed with the selection of delicious mains from the a la carte menu especially the chicken tikka masala and freshly baked naans.

Save some room at the end for a special treat - the platter of authentic Indian sweets were a delight. The attentive owner was at hand to introduce us to a very lovely ras malai (royal cottage cheese in sweetened milk) and our fav kalakand (milk cake). We'll be back to enjoy more sweets and the warm hospitality

To get here from Qinghua South Gate: cross the bridge, turn right.

We visited Ganges late on a weekday evening and found the small restaurant surprisingly full - including several parties of South Asians. The aloo paratha was somewhat greasy, but the butter chicken was well-cooked with a perfect concoction of spices.

The service was also attentive and mostly English-speaking.

While prices might be a bit higher than the average wudaokou eatery, ganges serves really yummy and authentic indian food - really tender chicken tikka and flavorful chicken marsala, also LOVED the garlic naan with dipping sauces...mmm, so good!
