A perfect replica of a British curry house, this jumping joint gets the Guomao lunchtime crowd with its sizable and tasty Indian classics. With its gorgeous wooden carvings, excellent service and a very dedicated and friendly staff, this restaurant is a must for anyone who loves Indian cuisine. Lesser known is their creamy chicken lassuni curry, definitely worth a try.

[HTML_REMOVED] Moving Up [HTML_REMOVED]

[HTML_REMOVED] Faced with the impending takeover of three floors of the China World Trade Center by Louis Vuitton, Taj Pavilion’s Guomao branch was displaced this May. The new spot, in China Overseas Plaza, is just minutes away on foot. It has some small advantages over the old address, and the atmosphere, food and service have all remained intact.

[HTML_REMOVED] The new location doesn’t feel much larger, but with 80 seats and a large private room, it is. The new second-floor perch affords better views of the CBD, with skyscrapers mixed in with lush green trees outside the windows. Another advantage of the China Overseas Plaza location is the bathroom: It’s still located outside of the actual restaurant, but diners are no longer faced with the labyrinthine trek to the toilets we used to dread back at the China World Trade Center.

[HTML_REMOVED] Taj Pavilion’s move certainly hasn’t hurt its business. The place was packed on the Monday evening we visited, and we were just about the only ones there who weren’t Indian, which speaks volumes about the quality and authenticity of the food. The lassis (we tried mango and salty, both ¥25) are superb, and the palak paneer is our favorite in the city. Butter chicken (¥78) is spicier and richer—as well as less orange-colored—than at other Indian restaurants, and the healthy hara bara kebabs (¥36) are always a delight.

[HTML_REMOVED] We recognized both Indian and Chinese staff from the original location, so service remains as gracious, considerate and helpful as always. Taj has been one of our top picks for Indian dining since we first visited the Lido branch back in 2008, and this latest move hasn’t changed our opinion at all.

Good food, friendly service. If it were closer to where I live, I'd be in for the lunch specials all the time. Be sure to try the Palak Paneer and the onion bhaji.

Good mango lassis here. But I really enjoy eating their chicken korma. Usually the korma I get in Beijing is too insipid, but they do a great rendition here. Not exactly the most inspiring of atmospheres, but the food's really good, so whatever

Taj Pavilion is a good restaurant for dating or casual dinner with friends, I like it because it’s relaxed. And it’s a great deal with the new promotion package. The first dish SAMOSA is made by mashed potato and vegetable, mix with curry but the sauce is what really stood out. Choose different sauces of sour-sweet or spicy vegetable, and both are total vegetarian, and healthy. The HARA BARA KEBAB was really fresh. The green spicy vegetables and lemon sauce set it apart. The most memorable is ROGANJOSH with SAFFRON RICE, it’s so fragrant. The PALAK PANEER is made with spinach and different sauces is also delicious. It’s what you expect from a taditional Indian Resturant. We enjoyed the Gourmet Month menu and the environment.

Went here recently with some gift certificates I had received expecting that would be a turn off for the staff/management, since I had enough that I wouldn't have to pay any cash. However the staff was completely cool with it, even excited that I was there regardless. The manager came over immediately and started asking us if we wanted suggestions, which we did, and we ended up just letting him order for us since my friend and I do not know much about Indian cuisine. Couldn't tell you much about what we had, except that everything was very very tasty. We asked for things made extra spicy, and whoa man, they were not playing around with a few of the dishes. We had one friend come late, and they knew this, so they suggested they wait on serving some entrees for a while, good demonstration of consideration for customer service. Then once our third member did show up, they took the dish we had been eating on away to heat it up, but in fact, just replaced it with a new dish of the same kind free of charge. We ended up having 6-7 different food items, Indian whiskey, a bottle of wine, and when the bill came, I had used all my gift certificates, as we had expected. When I gave them the gift certificates plus a tip, the manager came back with one gift certificate and my tip and said to keep it for next time, so they knocked off about 150rmb off the bill in order to get us back. Great, great experience, good food, better service, and a ton of yummy leftovers.

It is the best Indian restaurant I have ever been. To be honest, I don't like the Indian spicy food before I tried in Taj. But after I went to this restaurant, I have been changed by the delicious food and the drink. The green chicken curry is my favourite. As to the drinks, the mango lassi could not be missed , especially for girls. The Indian tea is very special. I was told it was made in 15 kinds of ingredients. Taste good! Really enjoyed myself!

It's one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Beijing. Their food and service has always been very consistent. They've got very tasty lamb curry, Tandoor Chicken. And the mango lassi is my favorite drink!

I found the prices really expensive, but worth it. The food was amazing. everything came out quickly and was hot and delicious. they have a new set lunch, veg, or meat, that is a great choice to keep it on the cheaper side.

Last week we ate Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Vindaloo ,some vegetable curries with Nan bread and Rice. Food was okay . But when we saw the bill -off -expensive for beijing city. Would try some other indian restaurants soon . Then we had some tax 15 %. Because I have been here only few days and only this place collects the tax? for what?I asked the chinese waiter she said service tax? All the waiters were chinese and only the owner was indian guy . All other restaurants too have chinese waiters but they do not collect 15 % . Here no complaint of service but nothing exceptional for service tax

The food is not so fresh and the flavor of some dishes is wierd, especially "rice in yogurt"! We felt a little uncomfortable after the meal.

I have always believed that food is a very important part of culture; since I love India’s colorful culture, I am definitely fascinated by it’s food. Whenever we consider Indian food we automatically think of curry. Every Indian dish can use more than 10 different spices. That’s why when you taste Indian food you can’t help but feel like you’ve entered charmed territory. You can’t stop thinking about it, not only trying to identify the taste but also how best to describe it. I think it’s exotic but maybe that’s too general. Let’s uncover the purdah about Indian food at Taj Pavilion.

I was lucky to have the chance to be welcomed by the manager of Taj Pavilion at the World Trade Center. It is really easy to recognize Mr. Jasmeet, as he is a Punjabi Sikh and wears a black turban. He walked towards me with a nice smile as I was seated at a table from which I could view the whole restaurant.

The restaurant’s interior is elegant and warm, as you can see in the picture.

Spices are changed every 3 months to maintain freshness. The primary spice base of Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani cuisine is garam masala meaning hot (or warm) spice, which may include any of the following spices, usually freshly ground for added pungency: cinnamon, cumin, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom, chilies, garlic, ginger, turmeric, coriander, bay leaves, star anise and fennel. Taj Pavilion’s food has the same recipes, no matter which branch of the restaurant you go to and so it consistently has the same taste.

I consider it one of the best Indian restaurants in Beijing.

The owner has many years of hotel management experience. This is supposed to be the first Indian restaurant in Beijing. It’s been rewarded by That’s Beijing as an editor’s pick restaurant.
