Tim does barbecue the way connoisseurs want it, serving up generous portions of tender brisket, barbecue chicken and a variety of ribs complemented by slaw, cornbread and A&W root beer. The friendly waitstaff greet the largely expat crowd with a hearty "howdy" in a multileveled, lone-star themed setting.

Went here for lunch and my experience pretty much mirrors that of Yassa's review below, with easily distracted waiters etc. Providing a plastic cup for drinks is slightly insulting at the prices charged here and my food also had a reheated taste. Maybe this was once a nice enough place, but I feel with places like Home Plate serving better food (and I mean, much much better) for around half the price, I can't really see a reason to go to Tims any more.

Despite the food, I might say this is a good place for friends hanging out and catching up. Sometimes meeting and talking with new folks. All people I met here are nice. Well, the food is always served with large portion, though. I like the beef brisket. Tasty.

Came here at 6am with friends for Superbowl 10 days ago. It was a shot to see all the waitress were in American color, all cheer-leader look! Absolutely make me feel like back home. Both floors were packed, but we all had very friendly service. Tim was the MC which pushed the party to extra entertainment. At the end, we all had a blast though my team didn't win nor did I win a square:-) Thank you for the hard work to make this happen in Beijing, China, Parrtner!

Best bar b q pork ribs in town. Friendly wait service. It was a very pleasant dinner with the live band playing along some great music!

I was a little surprised walking in at lunch time to find the place totally empty. I showed myself to a seat, called for a waiter and asked for a menu. I was ready to order, so raised my hand for the waiter (who was now busy texting on her phone) to come over. After repeated failed attempts to get her and / or the bartender's attention, I eventually got up with the menu and went to her to order the food. This was witnessed by the owner who either chose to ignore it, or feels this is acceptable. I ordered a main course and a coke (which was brought in a plastic glass). The food tasted like it had been cooked the day before and reheated in a microwave and some items were not really hot enough. It wasn't bad enough for me to send back, but at almost 100 kuai I was expecting something that was at least freshly prepared. During my meal, 2 more customers arrived and I noticed they too experienced the same problems getting the staff's attention. What makes matters worse, is that the owner was present the entire time, walking around the restaurant with a beer in his hand and never once acknowledged my presence or that of the other table. Tim, if your restaurant is packed, then you have the right to be aloof, but when it's empty, it is a clear sign you need to roll up your sleeves and start showing some respect. I have no reason whatsoever to return as other places offer a stronger product.

The food is good, and is as authentic as it can be all things considered. Great trivia night on Tuesdays at 8pm. Its sometimes hard to get the attention of a waitress, but that hardly distracts from the overall atmosphere of joy at finding real American food.

Decent place for me to sedate a BBQ fix. I go there for lunch often enough, get a bbq chopped beef sandwich and an iced tea, (almost) always hits the spot for me. Some other items are hit or miss, I like the BBQ chicken (and its a great price too), ribs are ok enough. More often than not is the side dishes which leave you less than impressed. Overall good vibe in the place. When friends and I don't know what we want to eat, this is one of our standby's that come to mind.

I generally hop in here after some shopping if I have to take a friend or a guest for shopping. A quick beer and some BBQ mexican works. But on last both occassions in a month have been not upto the mark. Its still better than lugas, but not as good as one would expect some good mexican.

Hi Xiin. I can't turn back the hands of time, but I can make it up to you. Our standard 'Guac & chips' serving should be 1.5 avacados blended with other ingredients to make a nice-sized serving of Guacamole. From the description in your review it sounds like we have cheated you and I'm sorry about that. I'm happy to treat you to another Guac and Chips on your next visit. Just identify yourself to me or one of my staff on your next visit. Hope to see you soon.

LOVE the seven layer dip and had a serious craving for it last night. Finally broke down and ordered both the seven layer dip and guacamole through beijing goodies for delivery. When it came, i was absolutely shocked - both the seven layer dip and guacamole were the same price, but the guacamole came in this TINY 1" container... and that was it! i was so disappointed. i know that avocados are expensive in China, but.. really?!?!?!

the menu makes it a real challenge to figure out what tasty dish to get, they all look so good. i went with beef ribs and they were great, will have to go again to try the other dishes

Can feel that the owner, Tim put in lots of passion with the decor = I Like! Service staffs were nice and friendly; food portion were sufficient and tasty. I shall return!

Love this place!! Great food and drinks, awesome live music, and friendly home style service!

Thanks for the reply Tim.. As I mentioned, the staff did what they should have done!
That said, both myself and my dining companions are positively certain you never made an offer to replace the dish or take it off the bill at any point. The waiter did so at the end of the meal when he came to clear the table.
anyways, let's not go into he said/he said type of replies. I've posted my review and you have posted your answer... that's what these websites are for.
cheers

Its disappointing that my offer to replace the ribs which your dining companion disliked nor my offer to change his order to something like brisket were rejected by him. I have found that many times when a customer points out a problem, they are hesitant to accept replacement meals. I have found that in many cases I can put people at ease by talking about the bar-b-q process and generally leave the customer happy by getting them to try something else or offering complimentary drinks or dessert as i did last night. I train my staff to inquire about customer's meals to ensure satisfaction and we have a store policy to replace or enhance any meal which a customer finds unsatisfactory. It seems like my staff did that last night and I thank you for reporting this in your review. We welcome and solicit feed back from all our customers and I appreciate your candid review about the service last night. I invite you and your friends back to enjoy some more Texas bar-b-q [my treat, of course] which was enjoyed, as you say, by all but one of your group last night.

I've been going to Tim's for a few years and always valued it as a good establishment with an owner that cares... until tonight that is! Went there with 3 friends for dinner and conversation as it was close enough to our meeting point and been going there for years... we had the beef ribs and beef brisket (important for the rest of the review). Service was the same as usual with no complaints as drinks came out in a timely fashion and the staff was smiling. We had the vegetarian dip which was slightly worse than usual but nevertheless acceptable. The ribs came out I gotta say that mine were as good as usual, so were those of the second person. our 3rd companion on the other hand inherited a travesty of a dish with completely burned meat that tasted like gasoline. Not wanting to make a scene or spoil the evening, he set it aside and we kept chatting.... I spotted Tim, who I'd known for a while, said hello and proceeded to ask about the ribs and explain that my friend's dish was nowhere near the quality whereas ours were great. Tim proceeded to blame the quality control, the different sizes of cuts, the cooks and stopped short of blaming the weather. He then asked if he could get us a drink and walk away!!!! the kicker is that when the waiter came in much later to clear the table, he inquired about the almost-untouched ribs and profusely apologized offering to bring a replacement... something the owner didn't ever bother doing.. by then, we didn't care! To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. I expect such nonchalant behavior from Chinese staff but not a western owner, and especially not one that has been around for as long as Tim has been in town. Generally, if i don't care about an establishment, I won't care about seeking out the owner to complain or even write about it.... in this case, I do care and I did expect a lot better response to a complaint about an obviously faulty offering from the owner of the joint. The rest of the meal was ok, if not pleasurable, but I won't be patronizing the establishment again.... not with the multitude of choices in Beijing.

whrandall you weren't conned. You put in two 100 RMB and supposedly got change. If she had tried to keep the "fake" bill and demanded a third one from you then it would have been a con. Wait and store staff are really picky about bills, if it is bad some managers take it out of their pay. I had perfectly legit US$100 bill refused because they have marks on them. Just spend it at the next place.
You paid for what you got, no blood no foul.

Beware!
I definitely had one of the waitress con me and a friend today. We each put in a 100 rmb bill for the 183 kuai bill and she came back saying that one of the bills was fake. At the time we were both shocked, took the bill back, and gave her a new one. On our walk back to the office we realized we had been conned. Both of us are in Beijing on a two month UNPAID internship, and we are withdrawing cash from bank ATMs. That is the only place we get 100 rmb bills (the rest of the 100s in both of our wallets were just fine). Since the atm scans all their bills, odds are it wasn't a problem on our end. Unless ICBC and Bank of Beijing have recently started passing off fake 100s, we got dupped.
Despite the waitress con, service was quick and the food was really awesome, especially the Texas Pickles (Jalapeno poppers).
Just be careful with your money!

I was at Tim's last night for Trivia Night and tried the beef brisket. Unbelievably good. Soft, slow cooked brisket in a spicy sauce served with sides of potato salad, cole slaw and baked beans.
There are some amazing dishes on the menu here—not to mention a solid menu of craft beers, including one of my favorites: Brooklyn IPA.

I was never super impressed with the food here, but then I discovered the chalupas: crunchy round tortillas with beans, cheese, lettuce, salsa and guacamole. I highly recommend them! The apple pie's decent, too, but I always feel too full by the time I'm done with it -- it's better shared between two people I think. The best thing at Tim's is probably the Tuesday quiz night, which can really get the place packed. It's a really fun, relaxed social event that's just what everyone needs on a Tuesday night.

It aint Austin, but its as good as it gets in this part of the world.
This is real Texas BBQ. I particularly like the beef ribs. Portions are huge.
Potato salad a bit bland. They used to make a version with Jalapenos that I liked, but it no longer seems available.

Every time I went to Tim's Texas BBQ with friends, we had very good time. My friends and I really like the beef ribs and hamburger there.

I have had a solid experience at Tim's every time I have gone. Service, like in most Beijing restaurants, can be up and down, but I can say without hesitation that Tim is committed to giving his customers quality service and Beijing's top Tex-Mex fare.

Dear Jaded. I'm terribly upset that you received bad service and/or food at my establishment. We have many regular and repeat customers - some of them travel from outside Beijing - to dine at my place, so I'm sure that we 'get it right!' most of the time. I invite you back to give us another try, at no cost, and would also welcome more feedback from you. Please call me at 13701084766 if you are able and willing to discuss further

Since we live around the corner, thought we would give it a try. BUT WOW, what a TERRRRRRIBLE experience. we ordered the 'fish & chips', a mushroom/cheese burger, & a caesar salad to start. what did we get?
first, comes our 'fresh chips' (aka chips and guacamole) and once the waitress heard that we ordered 'fish & chips' and not 'fresh chips', she had the nerve to cover up her blunder by saying that these chips were made from 'fish skin'; so it was technically 'fish & chips'. OF COURSE! HOW MORONIC OF ME!?!
people make mistakes; I get that. but to try to cover up your mistake by saying that 'fish & chips' consists of tortilla chips and guacamole is utterly pathetic. also, since both me and my gf can speak Chinese, the language barrier was not the problem.
second, the caesar salad comes and if I wanted mayo served on some lettuce, I think the local JingKeLong market could have handled that for me. how could a simple dish go so wrong?
lastly, the best part... my burger. I would think that a restaurant that has the word 'BBQ' in its name would not mess that up but low and behold, I get served a black paperweight nuked past recognition that is impersonating as my burger patty (with 2 dinky pieces of mushroom melted over a Kraft single). YEE-HAWWW, that's some texas cooking!!!
Just a word of advice, you know how some reviews of other eateries say "try this dish" or "stay away from this dish". Well, my advice is pretty simple. I have been living in China for over 6 years now and I can safely say that this was probably the worst dining and service I have ever had. JUST STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!
Well, at least they didnt f*** up the Diet Coke.

Being at the Roadhouse a few times i gave this one a try the other night. Had the brisket, which was quite a generous serving of juicy tender meat with too little barbecue sauce. The coleslaw was nice but the other two sides were disappointing, the potato salad bland, stale and barely edible, the wagon beans looked so yummy, but were not, they were overly peppery, bland and watery. The quesadilla, was crunchy tasty delicious. Service is very nice and helpful. Dongdaqiao can be a nice place for having a beer, some decent food and sitting outside watching people passing by on a warm summer evening...
Solid experience and having the CW 20% coupon at hand very affordable. This might be the best Central Texas bbq you're going to get in this hemisphere. That said, it ain't no Kreutz's or even Cooper's, but there's plenty good enough to chaw off any irrational bbq cravings. The sides, aside from the potato salad, are nothing to write home about, with me seconding the aforementioned weak beans account. Real central Texans, though, care about sides about as much as a cow cares about kelp. Which begs the question of why the beef is dry. Perhaps Chinese cows just don't sport the marbling and fatty heft of their stateside cousins. Either way, I had to use a good bit of bbq sauce for my beef ribs and brisket, a big no-no. I gotta say though, their flavor and smoke is pretty durn good. Tim's a good guy, and his staff are eager to please. I didn't have trouble ordering in either English or Chinese. Did I order anything else besides bbq off the menu? Besides a Brooklyn IPA, which I'm grateful they carry, hell no, why bother? All in all, a kitschy, fun place with good beer, decent bbq, and nice people. Sound like it's worth going to?

Tim says Sundays at 8 a.m. will feature some NCAA football games this fall. So other than having a Brooklyn Ale or Rogue to kick off the day — possibly an Irish Car Bomb — there is no way one can pass up the beef brisket.
It takes some additional barbecue sauce to get the perfect taste, but this is a minor technicality. Tim's Texas BBQ is easily some of the best "mid-western" food in all of Beijing.

Nice place ,great food , good service and especially boss Tim's sweet smile and my favorite food which is chopped beef sandwich in BBQ . I love there although i have moved shanghai from Beijing

beef ribs are to die for. sliced beef came in 2nd beans are weak and bland chicken was dry cornbread was good coleslaw was decent potato salad was nice out of carrot cake :(
staff was a bit confused, even when friend told them in chinese (beijinger), but friendly enough. 1 of the boys was fairly bright and more helpful
I had lunch there last month and the fare was all good, people where nice, actually the only bad part was it was almost empty, but then I should expect that at 2:30 for lunch....
tasted like home to me!
I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere after being in Beijing for several months it was a pleasant change with good service and fairly authentic food. I was most surprised to find American microbrews available, they also made a half decent Margarita!

Hey - thanks for giving us another try. I'm afraid that the total food and service had deteriorated at the former location and business arrangment. Since our move to the new location we've put in a lot of hard work to get back that friendly service and ensure that no corners are cut, when it comes to the quality of food. We get a lot of repeat customers so we must be doing something right!.
Thanks for coming back in and I look forward to your next visit.

Went to this restaurant again a couple of weeks ago. Pork ribs were excellent this time. Service was friendly and good. Sat on the second floor which was smoke free and had room for the kids to run around.

Brisket & slaw were both too dry for my taste. Pork ribs had excellent flavor and a nice layer of fat. Cornbread was good.
Tip: It's on the east side of Dongdaqiao Rd., just south of Guanghua Rd (don't be fooled by the map on their website).
The Texas sized brisket was fairly small but tasty. The beef ribs were enormous but a little tough. The pork ribs and the cornbread were rather good but the beans were a little tasteless. A so so experience.

I ordered some food here through Goodies Beijing last week and can safely say it was the worst, sub-standard food I have ever had. Meat was bad quality and inedible and the "coleslaw" was merely tired looking cabbage with not a hint of dressing. Would stay well clear of this place.

Beans and Cornbread is good I complained about both the watery beans and the savoury, non-Jiffy cornbread when I had them as side dishes, but The Texan's right... when combined together, they're quite tasty!
I'll get my chance when we launch 'Ollie's Oklahoma Trailer Joint' :-)

Rockets red glare Enjoy authentic Texas bbq served up with heaps of brisket and a healthy dose of draft beer by the pitcher...but when will that slingbox make an appearance? Can we expect to see any 2006 NCAA bowl games?

This is only good now in summer aproaching to hang out for a street view of cbd. Otherwise neither the food or the cocktails merit a come back. Night time on fridays or weekends , its good just for couple of beers and its more lively as they play good music .
